Let me guess: a driver from Richmond was at the controls? This is a major step up from the typical cars drivers from Richmond usually drive.

FYI: This is a Vancouver joke about how drivers from Richmond, where YVR is actually located, are terrible drivers

The aircraft left a taxiway, not the runway. "Veers off runway" gives the impression that it had an accident whilst landing, which it didn't.

Exactly, a little media sensationalism to sell the story and make it more terrifying than it actually is.

Mel Bakersfeld: Joe, this is Mel. There's no more time. Stop all engines and get out. Repeat. Stop all engines.
Cockpit qualified young man: Mr. Patroni, she won't take much more.
Joe Patroni: Well anyway, she's gonna get it.
Mel Bakersfeld: Joe, the plows are moving. Shut down and hold on! Joe Patroni! Do you read me? Acknowledge!
Mel Bakersfeld: Joe! Shut down!
Cockpit qualified young man: Mr. Patroni? Don't you hear him? Shut down.
Joe Patroni: I can't hear a thing. There's too much noise. Hold on. We're GOIN FOR BROKE!
Cockpit qualified young man: [after the plane gets out of the ditch] The instruction book said that was impossible.
Joe Patroni: That's one nice thing about the 707. It can do everything BUT read.

The weather recently (about twice as much rain as normal) has basically made the entire region into a mud bog. Stay on the pavement!

Nah, we're in Canada :P LOL

From exiting the runway, the turn off from the high speed taxi on to MIKE is an extremely sharp turn with very little margin for error, especially with the big jets. Surprised this happened sooner!

I lived in Richmond for 30+ years (and recently moved out).

If it was really just another day in Richmond - and automobile driving actually correlated with aircraft taxiing, we'd have far worse than a slight miscalculation on a turn.

We'd see things like (oh never mind, the death toll would have shutdown the airport years ago).

Maybe we can be thankful the pilots are not Richmond residents...

Anyway, it happened again, PR 77W hit the jetbridge.

Chicago may have big crashes, but Richmond has the quantity: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...ike-in-richmond-offences-1.1141271
