AA Starting 787 Service To MAN!

Mon Feb 01, 2016 1:39 am

AA will operate the 787 on ORD-MAN from Jun to October. Your thoughts?

Yawnn!!! Seems like a waste of potential. Put an A330 on the MAN route. Why not use that shiny new 787 to give us LAX-ICN.

MIA-CDG has even been downgraded to old cabin 763s as of late. that's a far scream from the 788 entering service...

Way back in the early 2000's, Boeing publicly said that the development of more efficient twin-jet airliners would be the future of long-range commercial aviation. A lot of people laughed at the idea with Airbus' ambitious A380, but in the end, it appears Boeing's stance won out, especially with the lower CASM of the 787-9. As such, the 787-9 and A350XWB-900 could effectively end the larger airliners except on certain high-capacity routes.

AA using the 787 on the ORD-MAN route proves Boeing's assertion right--you're not going to get the passenger demand of something like ORD-LHR, but the lower CASM of the 787 makes ORD-MAN much more financially viable.

It's a mix of 777 and 767. Air France dominates them.

It doesn't have to be to CDG..

Well given it's a B763 replacement it's long overdue IMHO, finally some love for MAN.

ORD-MAN-ORD makes sense, since it can use slightly less than one 787 between Asia rotations that use slightly more than one 787.

What about 787 service on PHL to anywhere in Asia?

I think this is great news for AA and ORD passengers! American has neglected Chicago for far too long and it's nice to them showing them some love!

Maybe there is confusion somewhere, it seems to me that MIA is actually Manchester International Airport, but I am old school and remember the old ad slogan of Fly Via MIA.

Why? MIA long-haul markets, especially the ones AA flies, tend to be bulky. They are better fit for the 777s which are doing most of AA's Europe and Deep South America flying these days.

I've heard a rumour that, beyond a.net, the centre of the world isn't in fact MIA.  Wow!

Who'd have thought it...

Nice to see a little enhancement on ORD/MAN.

It's been a longstanding route and has, I think, seen everything in gauge, from the B757 through B763 and MD11 to the B772 historically.

I notice all of the AA routes from Manchester are widebodies this summer, as I think previously the MAN-JFK route has been a 757 and is now a 767-300 this summer.

With the A330 on the PHL route, 787 on the ORD route and the 763 on the JFK route, that will be nearly 750 seats a day this summer, for AA from MAN. Pretty impressive!

Do you think we will ever see AA return on the MIA and BOS routes they have flown in previously flown from Manchester?

787 is a better fit for the yield of a ORD market rather than the yield they get from MIA market with that MIA will prob be the last HUB that will see the 787 unless they start MIA-ASIA

Goodness gracious enough of the Miami talk please.

Question: it seems that ORD-MAN is back to running year-round?

Yes it has been year round for a while now. Just with a down gauge to 757 for winter. Looks like it will be the same this winter as the 787 is only flying until October.

Not so currently non op until 26th March ex ORD and 27th ex MAN - will return with a 75W initially.

This is the killer for me.. lack of consistency.

Did JFK and ORD on a full J ticket on the 763 this year and it ROCKED.... Way better than BA.

Looking forward to the 787, BUT....

Currently finding other ways to the states as I aint paying £ 3000 for those horrific 757s in J that remind me of sitting in a 1950s cinema seat.

I know it's a hard call over winter to MAN, but i'd be all over a decent year round product on the route!

The 787 makes perfect sense on MAN. The lower costs make huge sense on a thin route.

I just did a check of the fares, and they're not exactly cheap:

AA 54 ORD to MAN 06 July
AA 55 MAN to ORD 10 August

$3718 USD in Business/I Class fare
$1561 USD in Economy/O Class fare
$4383 USD in Economy/Y Class fare

I wish them well but with those fares...

What exactly were you expecting in the dead of Summer? Also, a route like MANORD is predominantly UK point of sale, so you'll find that the prices are at times 20% lower when MAN is your point of origin (as is the case with the exact itinerary you pulled).
