L-1011 Ex-Fly Hospital Now TriStar Experience
Hello, Does anyone have an update on the ex-Flying Hospital L-1011 in Tucson which is now owned by TriStar Experience of Kansas City. I heard they were supposed to start work on it right away in prep of a ferry flight. I haven't seen anything anywhere as to an update. Just curious, the plane being an ex-PSA aircraft it is special to me. Thanks in advance for any information and have a nice day.

Still sitting next to the Pima College aviation center, I have not seen anyone near it in years. I'll keep an eye on it though.

You have this mistaken with the Airline History Museum. The AHM is getting the DC-8 and already have their own L-1011, N700TS. TriStar History is a completely separate group.

The "Flying Hospital" titles have been removed from the port side and it appears the registration has changed. I was running late this morning so I didn't go to check up close.

That L-1011 at MKC is a sad site to see. I didn't realize they are also trying to get DC-8. Not sure what it's going to cost to get it here but so far they've only raised $3500.

Over the past week there have been people wandering in and out of the the aircraft. Today, there was a power cart attached and several systems were being checked. It appears that they are really trying to make it airworthy. I need to call a buddy of mine who buys and sells aircraft parts, and therefore doesn't work, and see if he can stop by and talk to the people working on it.
It never really was an operational hospital. In fact, it never flew as such. It just was pushed aside by The 700 Club and relegated to the ignominy of long term storage. But, considering that the ne owners are in Kansas City, I doubt PSA colors are in the future. Quite a pity.
I have every intention of being out when it starts taxi tests and flights. Fingers crossed.

It did fly on medical missions in 1999 and performed several hundred operations on board. Probably the only time it was actually used as it was very costly to operate.

Drove by the bird this morning--and picked up several large nails in my tires--it's really cool to see so much activity around her. They had every access panel open on that plane and at least five workers outside.
If you want to risk a trip to Discount Tire to get your tires repaired, it's pretty neat to see, especially since you can drive under part of the wing that's hanging over the fence. Both registrations are painted on the plane. My guess is nobody got up to the #2 inlet to paint over the P4-MED registration. One thing I noticed was a fair amount of rust (or what looked like rust at least) on the underside of the leading edge of the wing.
I'd love to get inside that plane before it's flown out of Arizona.
