This isn't specific to a song, but isn't there speculation why Blink-182 got the name "182"? They are from San Diego and that's where PSA 182 happened.

Correct, the lyrics are "coming out of the sky," and the song is about, well, a traveling band! So I think it's describing life on the road for a touring group in 1970, when the 737 would've been quite the modern way for a band to tour. Hell of a lot better than a van! Great song. It's on my gym playlist.

At Boeing we say it the way you state it's said in the UK: "Seven Seven Seven". "Seven Six Seven". "Seven Eight Seven". "Seven Four Seven.".
I do agree that the public will often say "Seven Forty Seven" because everyone knows that airplane because it's such an icon. Not sure if Joe Public says "Seven Eighty Seven" though.
The thing I hear a lot that I hate is, "Five Seven", "Six Seven", "Eight Seven", etc. Say the whole thing.
