747 by Swedish band Kent. There is an English and a Swedish version.

I loved this song in the late 90's.

"Early Morning Rain" by Gordon Lightfoot has a B707:

Out on runway number nine
Big seven o seven set to go
Well I'm out here on the grass
Where the pavement never grows
Where the liquor tasted good
And the women all were fast
There she goes my friend
She's rolling out at last

Saxon has a song called 747 (Strangers In The Night). It's about Scandinavian flight 911 that overshot JFK at night due to power outage sometime in 1965.

This isn't specific to a song, but isn't there speculation why Blink-182 got the name "182"? They are from San Diego and that's where PSA 182 happened.

The Box Tops - 1968
"727"

A good one!

Lyrics start with,

"727 take me to heaven
727 take me home
Gotta see my baby, oh yeah
I been down too long"

Notice that most lyrics about airplanes are friendly! Not too many lyrics about, "how I hate this plane!"

Monsieur Robert Charlebois, the great Québecois singer singing "Lindberg" in the 1970's makes mention of all of the following:

Astrojet
Whisperjet
Clipperjet
Québecair
Transworld (Airlines)
Northern Airlines
Eastern Airlines
Western Airlines
Pan American

This must be a record of sorts. The song is here:

...And, of course, there's "2-4-2 Fox Trot (The Lear Jet Song)" by The Byrds (album '5D', 1966)

Plus, separately: "I Lost My Heart on a 747" by Tom Paxton (album 'Peace Will Come', 1972)....
I lost my heart
On a 747
Halfway to heaven
Passing over Des Moines…

Yes, I know band names aren't the topic, but at least we have: the B-52s, Stratocruiser and, naturally, U2.
A bit further O/T, how about the Beastie Boys album cover for "Licensed to Ill" (1986) featuring a 727 tail on the front...and its nose on the back (crunching a mountain)?

"Do America"
Mark Knopfler

"Well I have been it every since I was a kid at school
Now they love me in Newcastle and in Liverpool
I am as hard as a pistol I can't do no wrong
I've been in Birmingham and Bristol to play my song

Take the 777 to the USA
Gonna party all night and gonna sleep all day
Seen the New York City cause I never been
New York City in a limousine
Gonna do America do do America
Do America do do America now

Take the 777 over to LA
Gonna party all night and gonna sleep all day
Wake up and drive around, I get the coolest girl in town
Do america do do america
Do America do do America now

Lupe Fiasco sings about a 747 crashing into the Pentagon,

we came through the storm nooses on our necks
and a smallpox blanket to keep us warm
on a 747 on the pentagon lawn
wake up the alarm clock is connected to a bomb
anthrax lab on a w. virginia farm.

Correct, the lyrics are "coming out of the sky," and the song is about, well, a traveling band! So I think it's describing life on the road for a touring group in 1970, when the 737 would've been quite the modern way for a band to tour. Hell of a lot better than a van! Great song. It's on my gym playlist.

In memorial of Maurice White, I was listening to Earth, Wind, & Fire tonight.

"Let's Groove" (1981) features the lyric, "...fly like a 747".

Slightly off topic but that song always reminds me that in the US, you often say seven forty-seven, whereas in the UK we always say seven four seven

At Boeing we say it the way you state it's said in the UK: "Seven Seven Seven". "Seven Six Seven". "Seven Eight Seven". "Seven Four Seven.".

I do agree that the public will often say "Seven Forty Seven" because everyone knows that airplane because it's such an icon. Not sure if Joe Public says "Seven Eighty Seven" though.

The thing I hear a lot that I hate is, "Five Seven", "Six Seven", "Eight Seven", etc. Say the whole thing.

The Chicken Song - Splitting Image

The chorus goes:

Quote:
Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith

In the English lyrics of "Moviestar" by Swedish artist Harpo:

"You should belong to the jet set
Fly your own private learjet"

In the Swedish original a Jumbojet is mentioned instead.

Motorhead

If you're going to pick Motorhead, I'd say this is the most plane-ish:

Here we go again on a 747,
Looking at the clouds from the other side of heaven,
Smoking & drinking, never gonna stop,
Reading magazines stop me looking at the clock,
Wanna watch the movie, can't sit still,
Flying down to Rio, going to Brazil,

Watching all the road crew attacking little girls,
Joined the mile high club, runnin' round the world,
All the booze is free, airline going broke,
Here comes the lady with another Jack 'n' Coke
Wanna watch the movie, can't sit still,
Flying down to Rio, going to Brazil,

Steve, Clem, Hobbsy, John, Crazy Dil & Pappy,
Had to travel second class, they ain't too fucking happy,
Elevator music, butter in my ears,
Think we're gonna die just the pilot changing gear,
Wanna watch the movie, can't sit still,
Flying down to Rio, going to Brazil.
Four Granavox Turbines!

While your thoughts could get away.

The Clash mentioned a DC-10 and Joe Ely referenced a DC-9.

Certain hip-hoppers seem to regard JetBlue as a favorite airline, since they are mentioned by both Chromeo and Major Lazer (look up "Jet Blue Jet").

I've got a 'LP' (no sniggering) "Back in the DHSS" by Half Man Half Biscuit:

Oh god how I longed for a dangerous wave
So I could surf myself towards an early grave
I would rather talk to plankton than to dance with you
I hope your plane back home’s a DC-10

Harsh.
