Finnair A350 Ops To LHR

Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:27 pm

I was booked on an AY831 from HEL to LHR in March which was scheduled on the A350. Just had an e-mail to say it's now an A320  Anyone know why the A350 has been pulled?

Very annoying; they have been operating widebodies (A330/340s rather than 350s) on the morning flight, leaving LHR at about ten.

Might be because they are flying the A350s 18h a day on their long haul network. Doesn't leave much extra capacity for European routes. Additionally their next frame is delayed because the Zodiac seats are late.

If you booked the flight specifically for the A350 and dont want to go to HEL anymore, see if you can get a refund. I know that people got refunds for planned A350 flights when the a/c wasnt delivered in time for those first flights.

Well I've booked a weekend of flying around it so I guess I'll go anyway...I'll just have to book another trip to get an A350

Finnair can 'go to HEL' if they mess people about like this any more!

Hope you have some other interesting equipment booked. Anyway, you will have plenty of time to catch the A350.

The AY831/832 is a heavy Airbus A330/340 four days a week. The ts&cs of your ticket don't allow a refund for an equipment change alas.

We need an A.net Travel Insurance agency - cover for equipment changes and anything else that'll screw up that perfect logbook opportunity :p

Then again, it'd probably be bankrupted every time DL published a schedule change. Not to mention IB on MAD-LHR-MAD.

Indeed. I've just had my 330 swapped to a 321 on MAD-LHR

Bad news about the A350 swap though.

Fri 18 March seems to be the next AY 832 LHR - HEL with the 359 according to Galileo.
Then from 28 March ( start of summer timetable ) they're due to be on that flight 3 x weekly, Mon/Fri/Sun.

Zodiac seat issue permitting, of course !

Hope this helps

Problem is the contract with AY is to get from eg. LHR to HEL and that is what they provide. Most people don't care or know what they fly on but it's a different for us a.nutters I know. They will get you to HEL but ops can change at anytime. I have flown & luckily they stuck to the A359 LHR>HEL a while back. It's a joy. I also have booked MAD-LHR on IB A332 in March and really hoping they stick with that ?!?

Indeed it is and I knew the terms when I bought the ticket. No big deal as any opportunity to fly is welcome and a weekend in Helsinki will be lovely anyway.

What is disappointing is the attitude of Finnair. I contacted them to say I booked the 08:00 AY831 service specifically to get the A350 and asking if as a gesture of goodwill they would allow me to change to a later flight that day (I wouldn't have booked such an early departure if it hadn't been for the A350). Their response was essentially to say read the terms and conditions and no you can't change. I asked them to reconsider and escalate to a manager but the response was no, that's just the way it is. For literally no cost to Finnair they could have had a happy customer and some loyalty - instead what they now have is someone who won't give them any more of his money.

So FInnair had planned the A350 on LHR flights, the next delivery is late so they are an aircraft short. They decide to keep the A350 on longhaul as a priority and somethings they are "messing people about"

I love the internet

Well I'm the thread starter and I'm not saying they've messed me about. I'm disappointed at the equipment change but I'm more than happy to accept it's all part of the risk you take when you book a flight to get a particular type.

I was once on a random flight in Europe, and quite happily sitting on my seat way back in economy, when the AY flight attendant comes to talk to me (as I am a frequent flier), and apologises that they had to switch from A350 to A320. I turned from a happy customer to a "darn, I could have flown on an A350" -customer   It is also possible that as an a.net member, I should have paid more attention to what equipment I was booked on

But it happens. Sorry for your experience, sk736. Hope both of us get the A350 service soon!

I apologise sk736. I full realise that you weren't being ungracious in your opening post. I 100% understand your disappointment. My post was intended as a rebuttal towards winterlight..............who in hindsight I see was probably being ironic...so apologies in that direction too.

Seconded. I will have to wait 30 months till I get to try it out.
