Wow...what a disaster. Hard to believe this ever got to a vote if it was viewed this poorly by the membership.

Per the rules, they had to bring the company proposal to the workgroup for a vote. NMB rules IIRC.

The company wanted the vote to gage the level of satisfaction OR Dissatisfaction.
I would bet had the vote gone anywhere near 50% they might Not have negotiated any further.
But at he Level this went up in flames??
If they wanted an indication? Well?? they got it!!

What were some of the larger reasons for the no vote?
Obviously there are things in every contract that one person will find acceptable that the next won't. Every vote is different, but with such a wide margin which were the most unattractive policies of the proposed contract?

Good question. The media is reporting the offer was an immediate 25 percent raise plus $9,000 cash. There must be something big that was ignored.

I wished my IAM brothers would of stood up to the company and voted like this. All they saw was the signing bonus and retro and didn't care about the company outsourcing 50 stations.

Remember this proposal was largely drafted when Jeff was in charge and I think most UA employees who are friends with mechanics or at the very lest spoke to mechanics kind of got a since that this would not pass once the proposal was read by the rank and file. The union was for the lack of a better word "order" to present UA's proposal to it's membership and union leaders knew it would fail. But you are correct when you say out of touch because Jeff was completely out of touch with the employees.
This vote presents Munoz with a great opportunity to come up with a proposal that is fair and equitable to the mechanics. If Munoz could put together a team that successfully negotiated a contract extension with the pilots I think there is hope they can reach a a fair agreement with the mechanics.

Way to stand strong MX brothers ; we at ramp signed a crap contract then UA came back and forced a paycut on our station and the Union agreed with it ..
Hope we can get a new contract for 2017 ..but they won't even pay the agreed pay we had in 2014 the ramp
Keeps moving backwards... But everyday more analysts process managers and other "nonsense " positions are filled in Chicago ..
UA is still far behind the others in treating their employees like professionals ..

It was what they called their "last, best, and final offer". I'm assuming they thought most would be blinded by the high hourly wage and forget to read the rest

The top out wage was great, and the wage resets sounded wonderful. But health care is a huge issue and that's largely IBT related. They did an absolutely terrible job communicating the pros and cons of that part of the deal, and it's their plan. Some found the B scale offensive, others didn't like seniority integration, and the list goes on and on. They wasted months on this when they could have been working. The whole negotiation process has been a complete joke run by an extremely arrogant management group who are tone deaf to the division. Maybe this wakes them up and they start to take it serious.
