I usually love the special livery planes, but this one looks a bit weird. Too much red for my liking. That or it just looks a bit too plain.

They have no meaningful presence in either state, so why paint a plane in honor of them?

Well that's kind of a BS answer. Sure air operations aren't massive, but OKC does have one of the res centers - like ABQ - so they do contribute a decent amount in payroll dollars.

Given the flag is almost all red, sort of makes sense. It's a pretty simple flag design as well. Finally glad to see my home state get a logo-jet.

Cool paint job. Georgia would have been better. Definitely biased, but an announcement of a new crew base would be far more worthy of the phrase "big announcement" someone referenced in another thread.

Well, New Mexico has one and ABQ is not exactly gangbusters on the chart of ops for WN.
With OKC, TUL and the res center I am sure one will be forthcoming at some point for Oklafriggin'homa.

I think there will be a route announcement or two this evening at the employee event being held in Nashville.

I recall reading on A.net a few years ago that WN created State liveries when the airline reached a point where they carried a certain percentage of that state's air traffic.

That was a statement from someone high up at WN and unfortunately I don't remember any further details, such as exactly what the threshold was or whether the level was based on # seats flown, pax flown, $ spent on fares, # flights, etc. (My guess is that threshold was 50% but I'm not sure.)

Whether that is still true or not, I have no idea. Perhaps someone from the company can jump in here.

When they repaint the state flag aircraft with the current heart livery, are they repainting the entire plane, or just doing the tail and giving the fuselage a good cleaning?

The entire A/C gets repainted. A/C gets cleaned every 6 months or so.

or they've been flying there for 30 years and it has a historical significance because it was only one of two states with Southwest service outside of Texas. Who are you to judge as to what's significant and what's not to others?

With just ABQ and a res center they should paint the plane back to original colours right?!

Obviously WN can do what they please, and discussions here are just for said sake, but asking about an Okie one is not an odd question based on WN's historical painted aircraft.

I went off site searched google and found a pic. Has to be the worst looking "state " plane southwest has done. Tennessee deserves a better thought out design.

Nashville will end up being a base before Atlanta. There's more growth potential there than in ATL.

The state planes look just like how the flags are. So for the TN plane to get a better design, you would have to redsign the TN state flag to something better.

I agree. There is some room for artistic license, though. For instance, the "mid-flag circle" on Missouri One is quite a bit larger. Some flags, like Colorado and Maryland, lend themselves better to cool looking 737s too.

As a proud Tennessean, the flag symbol and star placement is perfect. Just like the Legacys (or at least AA) honor the airlines in their history, WN honors the states they serve, which i think is awesome. A great marketing tool.

Thanks for that photo of the actual plane in daylight.

In the first photo it looks like the blue with the stars is a straight band around the fuselage, but in the daylight photo you can see that it's not, it's an actual circle. It is a pretty faithful reproduction of the Tennessee flag. But man, there is a lot of red on that airplane. I guess that's good for visibility reasons. You can't miss it.
