AC835 Diverted To LHR

Tue Feb 23, 2016 4:28 pm

It happened about three hours ago while the flight to YUL was cruising south of ORK. It's now back in the air since about one hour.

I guess it was probably a medical deiversion.

FRA-YUL should be AC875.....
AC835 is FRA-YOW when it comes back

AC835 is GVA-YUL-YYZ, has nothing to do with FRA.....

YOW-FRA AC838, 839 for the return.....summer only!

OK, where is this flight coming/going to? Best to put airports not just flight numbers. Some of us are not able to memorize all the flight numbers of all the airlines.

You can open the link or, say, google it, though, right?

If just medical why would this flight not have diverted to DUB or SNN? Seemed much closer.

I am taking the YUL-YYZ portion of this flight tomorrow...

I asked myself the same question. I guess, if it was a medical, it didn't require an asap landing. Also, since the flight was heading to YUL and YYZ, there are more options from LHR for that person to continue her/his journey when in better health again.

If it is a non emergency then I think landing at LHR would make more sense because AC has ops there to make handling of the flight easier and if a crew change would be needed they would have that available at LHR.

One question.

Would this flight have to dump fuel or could it land heavy? It is listed as a 333 which has a much longer range than GVA-YUL so I would think they could land but I am not sure of the rules regarding this.

AC A333 cannot dump fuel, I'm sure it was a heavier than normal landing but perfectly capable...

GVA-YUL is about 8 hours long. Then you have to add all the fuel reserves necessary. The aircraft was airborne about 2 and a half hours before landing at LHR. I don't know what's AC A333s MLW but I think it was a heavy landing.

Air Canada have substantial engineering cover at as well as substantial lift each day going West if they had to retoute the passengers so way more operational flexibility than DUB/SNN. Unless there was an imminent threat to life this makes way more sense.

Probably a heavier than normal landing but not overweight, they weren't on the ground long so there probably wasn't an over weight mtc inspection done or it was fairly quick. With no fuel dump capability the aircraft max landing weights are usually pretty close to take off weights, and being a couple hours into the flight already, it probably wasn't an issue.

Not the case for many aircraft including the A330. Airbus shows a difference of roughly 60,000 to 80,000 lbs between max takeoff weight and max landing weight for the A330. There are numerous variations depending on optional gross weights etc.

Fair enough but in a typical operation I wonder how close it would actually be....

I wonder how much the main landing gear design allows for greater margin?
