Maybe think about changing the thread title to Mobile instead of Modile? Lol

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't this effectively FAL? I tend to be more of a Boeing fan, but congrats to Airbus and to Mobile for getting the place up and running!

Assuming the picture was recently taken (say between 20Feb and 23Feb) paint should be finished by early March. If I remember correct First Flight was due Q1-2016 and delivery Q2-2016 right?

I wonder if the cabin would be installed already and we could see FF by the end of March (And Q1)

Congrats to Airbus!

And IAE/Pratt

And Jetblue.

Airbus is initially planning a maximum production rate of 48 to 50 aircraft a year from the Mobile line, a rate it expects to achieve in late 2017.
Quite a production ramp ahead!

Airbus joins the ranks of the European and Japanese automakers. Save labor costs on the FAL and insulate part of their economics from currency fluctuation.

Tariffs seems to be a much smaller worry now than with Japanese autos in the 1980s (when those in political power in the U.S. had vivid memories of WWII, etc.)

Will they need special evacuation cards for the US assembled aircraft?

Well the quality of the plane obviously reflects the southern US where it was built..look at it, looks like a jumbled together quilt of scrap aluminum...

Just kidding.... congrats to Airbus and Mobile, AL

Yes. The regulation requires that the country of final assembly be printed on the safety cards. So in this case JetBlue will have a separate safety card for aircraft built in Mobile. Can't mix them.

thanks for sharing, enjoyed reading it. Economic realities are what they are nowadays and that is not always a bad thing for a company that looks forward!

Anyway, congrads to the guys at Mobile, I think this as a whole is good news for the region AND Airbus!

Just waiting for the first Boeing line in Europe or China now. Globalisation is the magic word.........

When does an AA A321 roll off the Mobile assembly line? Think how short the delivery flight will be, Mobile to DFW.

Congratulations to the dedicated folks in Mobile. And thanks to Airbus for creating some well paying jobs in the US! They are building products they can be proud of.

I assume the interiors will be installed in Mobile--it's a long ferry flight to Finkenwerder and back. Maybe some a.netter has info on this. Be interesting to find out. Also how these folks were trained, how long the training took and I assume there is a lot of direct supervision from the people in Toulouse.

Again, great job.

What is the expected delivery for the first Delta A321 from Mobile? I heard there are 2 Mobile built this year along with 7 or 8 from Germany slated to deliver? That is a short hop from MOB to ATL, right around 300 miles (480kms).

What a milestone, A32X family now built on three separate continents something that Airbus should be really proud of...

And both Airbus and Mobile team should be really proud to get this far...I really wouldn't be surprised to see this line go beyond the 4/month production levels well before 2020

Actually, I would think it would go to their maintenance base in TUL to be prepped for service unless DFW is equipped to do it.

Knowing that Airbus buys a lot of their parts from the USA, I guess it was inevitable that they had FAL facilities in the USA.
I guess its a triumph for the government, Airbus, providers and suppliers, it will make a great contribution to the USA economy and also quality jobs.

Well done to Airbus who have now managed to spread production around the world. It must be a good sellig point to clients. Boeing remains entrenched in America and really should be moving abroad to encourage client loyalty. Imagine if they put a plant in the UAE? The ME3 would be knocking on their door far more.

Boeing just announced they are opening a 737 final assembly and delivery plant in China. These 737's will all go to Chinese airlines.

Wonder how the decision to open this FAL is looking in light of the dollar's continued surge?

But congratulations to the people there. Completing the first aircraft from a new plant is a big deal indeed. I'm also glad this one is going to an airline that will be able to take care of it a bit better than the operator of Boeing's first aircraft from Charleston.

If you can find the test registration, that would probably be the best indication. See, for example, this production list: http://www.abcdlist.nl/airbus_a320.html The reg in the first column is the test reg, so if it's French (F-WWxx) that would mean Toulouse, German (D-xxxx) is Hamburg, Chinese (B-xxxx) is Tianjin and now US (Nxxxxx) is Mobile.

That appears to be the case--my mistake. Apparently due to the EASA production certificate. The first one is F-WZMA, so maybe the Mobile aircraft will carry F-WZxx test regs as opposed to the F-WWxx series in Toulouse.

Yes, cabin installation and painting also takes place at Mobile. This is why our American friends trained at XFW for around 6 months, as the Mobile site is a similar replica to the Hamburg layout in terms of Production stations/locations and this also includes the cabin & painting tasks.
Our German colleagues then followed our friends back to the US to continue training at their own facility. There are now only a small number of Germans left in Mobile, I imagine they will remain until the first aircraft has been delivered to customer.

XFW produces A318/A319/A320/A321 aircraft. Only selected A320 aircraft. TLS deliveries the majority of A320 aircraft.
TSN produces A319 & A320 aircraft. There is talk of A321 being produced later this year/early next year. And Mobile A321 initially and A319/A320 within the next few years.

y flight to Finkenwerder and back. Maybe some a.netter has info on this. Be interesting to find out. Also how these folks were trained, how long the training took and I assume there is a lot of direct supervision from the people in Toulouse.

Again, great job.

I believe B6 takes their 321s to PAE to the Zodiac facility for installation?

A321 deliveries were going to ATS at PAE while the WiFi retrofit was going on with the A320s. After the retrofit was complete, a/c deliveries (pre-ops mods, LiveTV & WiFi installation) now go to HAECO at LCQ since we already have multiple HMV lines and the Sharklet retrofit program already there. So now the new a/c should all go to LCQ from the F.A.L. for pre-ops before entering revenue service.

Where did US send their new airbus deliveries?

They were still coming through PIT last I saw. This may have changed in the past year but they continued coming through PIT post merger at least initially, under AA flight numbers.
