"Alabama, along with Oklahoma, has the most reported EF5 tornadoes of any state, according to statistics from the National Climatic Data Center " Why would they choose a tornado prone state to build a giant aircraft manufacturing facility, wonder if Boeing had anything to do with this. LOL

Tornadoes are intense where they strike but you can be a few hundred yards away from the strike and get little damage. On the other hand, I saw what happened to Mobile's Battleship Park ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_Memorial_Park) due to Hurricane Ivan but didn't see what Hurricane Katrina did, but:

Quote:

Hurricane Katrina caused more than $7 million in damages to Battleship Memorial Park on August 29, 2005 when it came ashore.[4] It almost completely destroyed the aircraft pavilion and gave the Alabama an eight-degree list to port and shifting at her permanent anchorage

Bottom line: don't worry, if/when it happens, the professionals will take care of things.

Cannot beat the delivery flight for an Alaska 737, from BFI to SEA.

Not now but when AC mainline took delivery of their 25 CRJ-100s in the mid-1990s, they didn't even have to fly or start their engines. Just had to tow them from the Bombardier assembly plant to the AC hangar at YUL.

Current CRJs are assembled at Mrabel (YMX) along with the CSeries, so AC's new CS 300s will have a 17 nm delivery flight from YMX to YUL, still over 3 times as far as the 5 nm BFI-SEA for Boeing deliveries to AS.

Will Mobile be making the 321LR when that frame gets launched too? It will be nice to add BFM to our TLS, XFW, TSN Arbii parlance.

Yes, and the odds of that happening are?

Clearly if it were high BFM would be getting wiped out so often it wouldn't be a viable airport.

If I was as paranoid as some are on this site I'd be suggesting the fear mongerers have something against Airbus having a site in the good old USA... Fortunately the tornado accusation is so weak it doesn't stand up to any serious scrutiny.

Hurricanes are the bigger threat, not tornados. Mobile has had brushes with both Katrina and Ivan in 2004/2005 time frames. With that said, the overall odds of a tornado or hurricane wiping out the plant are quite remote. Boeing built their new plant in a hurricane zone as well (CHS).

In order for this argument to work, you have to make two HUGE assumptions:

1) that a tornado will directly hit the plant
2) that this tornado will be strong enough to knock it offline for "some time"

959 was the first A/C delivery that went to LCQ, I think that came from XFW somewhere in mid-December around the 17th, I got to LCQ a few days later to cover through the holidays. 961 was in January, 962 should be at LCQ now, and 964 comes next month.

Actually, I would think it would go to their maintenance base in TUL to be prepped for service unless DFW is equipped to do it.

I looked up a delivery flight for an A321 from Europe, and the last leg was BGR-DFW. While it seems that 738s are often delivered to TUL, 788s and 773s have been delivered to DFW.

Good thing, both NEO engines are behind schedule (CFM by only about 6 weeks, Pratt by 7 months or so...). Boeing has a problem as there is a shortage of 737NG orders. The gap to bridge is closing...

But another reason is the demand for the A321. The NEO A321 is lagging and it will take Airbus a year to convert the European factories over. Due to discounts of the CEO A321, there is a nice backlog at US based airlines that Mobile will fill. In time they'll convert to the A321 NEO, but after Hamburg.

Airplanes are sold in dollars so it shouldn't be a problem. It could even be better for Airbus' bottom line, which is in euros. Quoting MEA-707 (Reply 96):
In the 1990s there were a few Embraer Brasilia crashes in a row and as a result some ignorant politician introduced a law that passengers should be 'warned' that they are boarding some rattletrap made in some jungle somewhere. Typical populist oneliner kneejerk reaction.

While that may have been in the minds of some people at the time, when it was introduced in 2004 it had much more to do with the "freedom fries" backlash against all things French in the wake of France's non-support for the Iraq war, and concerns about a decline in American civil aircraft manufacturing in the face of competition from Airbus. Remember this was around the time Airbus reached parity (and in some years surpassed) Boeing for orders and deliveries.

I wonder if B6 has a patriotic name for her?

Maybe it patriotic per Se, but I think "Blue Bayou" would seem an appropriate choice...

I thought it might have already been out there. Still could be swapped over I imagine.

Oh and my post should have read "Maybe not patriotic per se". Too early a start to the day today!
