Busiest Long-haul Destinations From MAN?

Wed Feb 24, 2016 10:46 am

Has anyone got a list of the busiest long-haul destinations from MAN? Preferably those which aren't already served non-stop.

It would be interesting to see where pax connect to the most and therefore which flights are in need the most which aren't already served.

Bangkok and Sydney are more than likely up there

VS don't fly from MAN to ORD. Only from LHR on a seasonal basis.

Unserved probably BKK, it comes up pretty often in the list.

Until recently NYC was very underserved also, not sure after all the recent increases though.

The busiest current route is of course Dubai.

Can I rectify the post and ask for destinations which are currently not served?

Thanks

In that case, BOM and DEL must be up there along with BKK, SYD, MEL as mentioned above?

I still think AI would do well launching flights between MAN and BOM and DEL

When I used to live near MAN, I always wanted AI to take some initiative starting that sort of route because of my Indian roots and I travel to BOM good number of times but never happened.

I had even written an email to them but as expected had no reply what so ever.

Hopefully in future they might start something using B788..

It may be semi interesting to re-visit this Bloomberg interview with MAN in November 2015

"Los Angeles and Boston will be added by Thomas Cook Group Plc next year, with San Francisco, Dallas and Detroit among other U.S. targets for the airport, O’Toole said. Further objectives include Bangkok, Mumbai, Delhi and possibly Guangzhou in Asia, as well as Cape Town or Johannesburg in South Africa."

SFO appears to be in the bag.

Etihad states in a 2016 interview

"The most popular destinations are UAE, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, China and over 20 cities across India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. "

Emirates states for 2014/2015

1. Dubai
2. Islamabad
3. Hong Kong
4. Perth
5. Mumbai
6. Mauritius
7. Singapore
8. Sydney
9. Kuala Lumpur
10. Brisbane

Whilst Routesonline analysis indicates the size of those markets..
.
"Dubai is the largest single destination market for all passengers on the route with a 28.1 per cent share of traffic, but eight other markets generate flows of greater than 10,000 annual passengers: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Perth, Islamabad, Sydney, Singapore, Mauritius and Mumbai."

Can't find anything at the moment for travel to the States.

A caveat about what EY and EK states is that they're only reporting what *their* network can deliver

How come BKK shows up only on the verbal list while KUL shows up only on the numeric list ?

It is no doubt Orlando. MCOMAN is larger local market than NYCMAN even.

Good question that I can't answer.

Trawling through the Manchester Evening News archvies I found this 13th November 2012 article.

"Bosses say they want to introduce direct services to major cities like Bangkok, Los Angeles and Beijing....

Mr O’Toole said 100,000 people within Manchester’s catchment area were flying to Hong Kong each year from London airports, as well as 60,000 to Beijing, 113,000 to Bangkok, 60,000 to Lahore, 50,000 to Delhi and 70,000 to Mumbai.....
It is understood the airport is looking at new destinations including LA, Boston and Vienna"

So what they earmarked 3 years has seen HKG, LAX, PEK, BOS, & VIE launched.

Great to see MRU on that list. MK had a brief spell in the late 90s flying direct MAN-MRU, unfortunately it didn't work out and was axed (as ultimately was the rest of their European network except for LHR and CDG)
