Hello all,

Just clicked on the beach cam and I'll go out on a limb and say its a keeper. One warning though, be prepared to lower your volume. Unfortunately take offs can't be seen but definitely heard. I also appreciate their version of "channel 9".

Would recommend tuning in, at least for a break from the world...

Hello all,

The camera isn't in a locked position and not just the beach. Just watched an AA 757 launch and the camera kept it in focus to the right turn. A KLM 747 was up next.

This is awesome! Just saw KLM and Inselair depart. AF A340 is 9 min inbound. Wonder if the pan and zoom for arrivals?

They do show takeoffs. Just watched an AA757, KLM 747 and Insel MD-80 take off. They pan right down the runway

My apologies to my first post. At that time, I didn't know the viewing angle was movable and capable of zoom.
We now know what it can do to the right, haven't seen a left pan yet...

The owner of the website operates a variety of cams at different ports where cruise ships frequent. Smart move on his or her part to include Maho Beach, and even include Flight Radar 24 to help locate traffic. You can click on the links on either side and get flight times for takeoffs and landings.

Just watched a Liat ATR took off with close up zoom...!

Great to watch with ATC volume on the cam and FlightRadar24....

1. When is AF dropping their A340s and what will replace them?

2. Is it just me, but is SXM ATC a little laid back? Lots of repetitions.

3. Has AA always been putting MadDogs into SXM ? Is this due to the rumour that all of the MD-80s will congregate in MIA ?

The taxiway between the western general aviation terminal and the threshold of runway 10 isn't wide enough to accomodate the A340. The plane would at some point taxi into the grass or have a wingstrike with a GA plane parked at said terminal.

Thank you for that, it now works on Chrome whereas it didn't with the adblock, however it's a little disappointing as I almost had the answer to the eternal question of what IE10 was actually good for.

This is frankly AWESOME, now to coordinate my conference calls with the arrival and departure schedules and I will be a very happy man

It's night in Prague now so you can't see much, but during the day it's a lot of fun to look at. Thanks, OP, for posting SXM's! I love that it has sound.

Two little things I would add. Panning left to see the arrivals to rwy 10, and a small temperature indicator. 32 in Chicago currently. Might add that "Wish you were here" hook. The takeoffs toward the beach no worries with the zoom on that camera.

I've also seen many nice flight crews waving and no number ones yet, but it's early...

The temperature gauge on the left above the PTZ ad...........Right now its 79 degrees.............nice.

Does it get foggy there? That would be interesting to watch.

So many - like dozens - of 3rd party sites running scripts (mostly ads and web trackers) that are blocked by my company's filters. I probably just set off a hundred alarms in my IT department just clicking on it. Guess I can only watch it at home or on my phone.

By the way... when a webcam delivers jpg images instead of a stream, I like to automatically download all the pictures using command line tools like watch and xxxx (get with a w in front). This way, I can discard the non-interesting pictures later in the evening...

...and a friend has once asked me to record a full set of webcam pictures from Iceland so she has complete proof of how crappy the weather was. Big grin

If AF ever flies the A380 into SXM, every ANet member will be glued to this web cam watching it arrive and depart.

The only improvement I could ask for would be for the web cam to zoom in on a few of the cute lady sunbathers on Maho Beach in between aircraft movements.

What a nice set up, certainly better than the old cameras which were more bar focused.

For those that don't know, the Sunset Bar is going through a major renovation, give it a year and in some ways sadly, you won't even recognize it, they are building massive new viewing deck/patio areas which sit out over the ocean, new bar and kitchen.

To me it loses a lot of it's charm, but there is always the Driftwood bar at the other end or one of the shacks at Mullet Bay.

We just visited SXM last month! Loved every minute of it! Nothing better than sitting at the Sunset Bar with a cigar and mojito and spotting some planes. I'm ready to go back!
