Delta's CVG Hub

Sat Mar 05, 2016 4:05 am

Is Cincinnati still a hub for Delta. The reason I ask is that I am planning a trip from Columbus-New Orleans in July for the
Airliners International 2016 convention. I was looking at flights and does not list connections in CVG for Delta only Atlanta.
So whats going on with the Delta CVG hub?

Somewhat of an odd post...discussion concerning the status of CVG in Delta's network is pretty common around these forums. There's even a thread about the demolition of Concourse C with some pertinent discussion.

Quoting doulasc (Thread starter):

Delta hasn't flown CMH-CVG in since the late 2000s. Not sure why this would come as a surprise.

A bit fewer than 100 daily Delta and DCI flights a day to the destinations found here:

Flights are all comprised with Concourse B. Connections still exist on certain city pairs served to and from CVG.

It's still a hub, but a small O&D focused hub. It's certainly a long ways from it's heyday period, but it's still no MEM.

When DL does the "about Delta" blurb at the end of press releases they say something along the lines of "DL has major operations in major cities like Atlanta, Detroit, etc" and don't list Cincinatti.

And yet DL doesn't fly CVG-MSY nor CVG-CMH anymore.... and hasn't for quite some time, so even it couldn't help you even if it were still much of a hub for them.
I myself, suspect a more prosaic motive... ~Thranduil

DL's CVG "hub" is about as useful as UA'S CLE "hub" these days.

So sad to see.

They aren't very consistent about it. In this page, it's left off in the text blurb, but included in the table listing --

Still also listed on their News Hub "Hubs" category

Taken from today's paper:

"Demolition (Concourse C) is expected to begin in August, and it will take up to a year to tear down the facility and remake the site. Plans call for the site to be used to park airplanes and as a deicing pad."

It's not quite so weak as that. Check daily flight counts respectively.

I think CVG is not a full hub anymore but it still has some hub qualities due to the O&D. Recent dummy bookings for ORD-PHL show the possibility of connecting in CVG.
