Legacy US Airways Interior Mods

Sat Mar 05, 2016 5:35 pm

I flew to LHR last night on AA732 (A332) and the plane had been slightly refurbished to receive new seat covers (the navy blue AA style with the red stripe at the top of the seat) and the bulkheads were redone to the AA gray background.

I had never seen this before. Most L-US aircraft I had flown on recently had the US designed interior, with an AA flight symbol sticker covering the US flag on the bulkhead.

Will more aircraft receive mods similar to above soon? I know AA will be refurbishing the A330s soon, and they will receive Premium Economy within the next year.

I don't think that the domestic LUS 757s will, since those are to be phased out in the near future as the domestic LAA 757s are.

I flew a LUS A319 from LAX to IAD this week, and the coach seats also had new headrests with the signature AA gray and red accent. The rest of the seat was the original US Airways dark blue.

The first few rows had been reconfigured to include Main Cabin Extra legroom, although there was no indication of this on the overhead locker signs. The US logo had been removed from the bulkheads as well.

There are a few LUS 3192 flying around with the ebtire enterior redone. Only thing missing are the PTVs. Interior even smells new.

Actually, about half of the 93 319s have been or are currently in for reconfiguration to the new seats

Really. Had no idea there were that many. F count goes down to AA's 8 from 12 as well...

Really? state the obvious? Why in the world would they refub a plane they publicly said they are retiring. Come on people!

I flew on a L-US A319 (PSA bird) that had VERY comfy First Class seats in them, but was 3 rows of F, not 2.

Not all of the 757's are getting retired right away, some of the 757's are getting new seats. I believe the International 757's will see new seats in F/C and a refresh in coach. AA's international 757's are also flown on some domestic routes and routes to the Caribbean. You may see a refreshed AA 757 in the not to distant future.

I knew all the A319s were getting new seats and interiors (bulkheads/sidewalls and bin extenders) but I didn't know about the rest of the fleet. Hence I was surprised to fly on a A332 with new bulkhead print and new seat covers (but not new seats).

Just yesterday I was on an A-320 from PHL-CLT. The outside of the aircraft had been re-painted in AA colors, but the inside was all US, including the logos on the bulkheads.

All the older LAA 738s with cloth seats will be getting leather seats to match the rest of the newer 738s but without seat back IFE.

Does anyone by any chance know if and when the LUS A320's will be getting a refurb?

On the Google American Fleet Site I can see the progress of the refurbished LUS A319's but nothing on the A320's yet.

What is the plan with the A320s? Aren't many supposed to be retired? How many more 321s are on order, and what is the split between A321s originating with pre HP merger US Airways, Post merger US Airways, and American?

About half of the A320 fleet is relatively new with the new A380 style cabin and new seats. The other half is either from 1999-2001 and still has the original cabin with deactivated powerports and IFE. I think all the ancient HP 320s have been retired.

Most of the A321 fleet is the same. About half is from 2008-present with the rest being from around 2000. I really hope that they keep the US interiors in Y on the 321s. The pitch is at least 32 inches throughout the cabin.

It might be comfy but its inconsistent. Y pitch will likely be reduced and MCE will certainly be added over time to match AA's 321H config.
