According to the video in the link, looks like the DC-3 (may) have suffered a radio compass failure which -may- have caused, or helped cause, a CFIT during IMC. The official verdict, way back when, gave the pilots 100% of the blame. Hopefully this recent find will shed some light on exactly what happened...

Interesting. I hope that he can provide additional evidence to support his theory. If so, he could at least partially vindicate the flight crew. In 1946, aviation had made tremendous technical strides, but was still operating relatively primitively. As we have learned sadly in recent years, over reliance on technology can have devastating consequences.

He didn't discover an unknown crash site, he located a previously cleaned up crash site.
