Mon Mar 07, 2016 2:04 am

KMWA - Marion/Williamson County has started construction on a new facitility, MUCH larger than the current one, so I am asking myself what future plans are? Do they intend to intice carriers to come in?

No idea where this is. Every state has a Williamson County.

It is located in Marion,Illinois. However, I believe new terminal as opposed to a whole new airport, but I could be in error.
I flew there once to try out Cape Air. Stayed out by the mall and new baseball stadium. Was bitterly disappointed new areas had zero sidewalks. Not a very pedestrian friendly area of town I guess.
Hope the new digs are nice.

Also saw an article dated last November with pics of structure going up, so it seems it has been 'being built' for awhile now.

Just a replacement terminal for the aging 1980s terminal. Cape Air currently has daily service to STL from KMWA. Haven't heard of any airlines looking to serve MWA thought. A lot of SIU students practice their instrument approaches there.

Is there still a Mexican Restaurant in the (old) terminal?

When I first saw Williamson County my mind went straight to Kentucky. That would have been quite a waste of money. Marion/Carbondale at least makes sense, sort of.

Having been in all 14 counties in my fine state, I don't recall seeing such a county.

Nope, Sergio's is gone. I think they moved to a new location. I don't think the airport has any current food/drink vendor. It's been gone for quite some time. It is a new terminal, I don't know why I used the term airport. I don't know if the new terminal will have a restaurant inside.

My thought was Tennessee. It's one of the 10 wealthiest counties in the nation. I was like no way the NIMBY's in those big mansions are going to let an airport in there.
