The 767 were gone long ago. Nice addition in UX's fleet, who are already operating a leased 787 from LOT Polish Airlines.

A total of 22 787 were ordered, 14 787-8 and 8 787-9.

Haha, that is what I thought. Calling a white fuselage with the airline name and tail only painted creative would be crazy.

Thanks IberiaA319. For some reason I thought there was one 767 still in the fleet.

Any idea of whether UX might consider returning to MEX in cooperation with AM?

UX's chairman recently mentioned MEX as a possible destination in the future, this year a total of 4 787 will be added.

That route is often flown by an E195, so that would be a big upgrade! (I was on it last week).

I would think it would more likely fly routes like MAD-BCN and MAD-TFN which already see frequent A330 service.

I'm flying FCO-MAD on a UX 332 the day after Easter, but I'm guessing this is just a holiday substitution.

Maybe PMI as well - their home and maintenance base... And don't forget, GERMANIA will soon feeder UX @ PMI!

Any pictures of the interior yet? Hope it will receive a new BusinessClass outfit!

Its all UX crews and one purser from LOT...

Good luck to Air Europa, I hope they find their niche, are they a low cost, are they not?? When flying with them it does scream "LCC", even DY has a better product...

Six flights to TFN and one flight to LPA before it starts being used to Miami on April 1st (replacing the current MIA service which is a 787, but operated by LOT).

They don't know what they are. I would say it is what Air Berlin is to Germany.

Also it is a family-owned carrier with a lot of legal problems in Spain. I.e. they wanted (have they?) hire Peruvian crews for Latin American flights (read that Norwegian!!). They have taken IAG to court because UX (Globalia) lost this year (first time for the past 25) the contract for trips for pensioners in Spain (UX lost in court). That is only two of them.

I honestly avoid Air Europa like a plague; because every time I had the chance to fly them, it is a hit or miss; some planes are really old, the ambiance is quite "unhappy" (you can feel their FAs are definitely not happy) and very often their planes go technical. I really can't see the point to fly them when you have the "new" Iberia (and I hated Iberia in the past; but they have turned 180 degrees and now it is great overall), Vueling and all the low-cost competition (I prefer Ryanair or Norwegian to Air Europa). Then each plane has a different configuration. When they bought Skymark's planes, they proudly said it was an "all business configuration"... like the customer is an idiot.

And then you have their CEO that says (in 2016) they are going to become Spain's leading airline and IAG is going to collapse. A joke of an airline.

Not to mention they have been chasing investors for a while... first it was Etihad (at some point Air Europa even announced MAD-AUH to collaborate with EY but that never happened and EY directly started the flight) and now they were talking about Hainan group. It makes me wonder why those people that invest in anything flying in Europe have avoided Air Europa... (again it is not a publicly traded company so financial information is more opaque, and they usually report for the whole group - Globalia - that includes resorts and hotels).

Versus a current fleet of 17 A330's, so there is a little bit of growth in there.
I wonder though, as UX was one of the original non-XWB A350v1 customers, if Airbus had launched the A330NEO earlier, would they have not "defected" to 787?

It is really a shame, just like IB. Their current livery is actually quite nice IMO.

I agree with this, as their current long-haul product is quite inconsistent. In order to allow the UX network growth, several second-hand A330 were leased from different former operators, each with a different configuration. Therefore, you have Skymark, Gulf Air or Livingstone as former operators for these A330. Only very few A330, around 6, were originally delivered to UX.

The older A330 (especially of Livingstone Airline) are really worn out, and this mixed fleet reminds me about former Air Madrid's or Air Comet's fleet.

Once more 787 are added in the future, UX will get more consistency.

Still remember flying myself on a MAD-TFN-MIA flight back in 2009 and the A330 at that time were shining as these were the originally delivered to UX.

As far as the crew is concerned, the rotation of 6 months working and 6 months off with only temporary contracts were (are) the norm for a long time in UX, and considered as precarious by the personnel.

I flew them on their B738 and E90 and have to say the crew were great and flights on time. BOB service similar to many European airlines. I dont see what DY offer more than them other than wifi that often is broken.

On this link you can check some pictures with the interior of the B787, with registration EC-MIG, and also with the water cannon salute at Barajas airport.

http://fly-news.es/aerolineas/boeing-787-de-air-europa-asi-es/

Business class has 22 seats, with paired double seats distributed on 4 rows.

Economy layout on this 788 is 3-3-3, as most carriers also have, with 276 seats.

The 788 had to perform a go-around at Barajas once it came from North Carolina and landed on the second approach.

But yes, while it is smart to pick up opportunities of used frames the become available on the market, UX has a big issue with product inconsistency, and they urgently need to fix it if they wish to remain competitive to LatAm.

These are exactly my thoughts.. Try SJU-MAD with no IFE.... And apparently the pax that used this route regularly were "used" to it.... IB has been amazing lately, and they are not that far apart in price...

Saw the Y cabin on Twitter yesterday looks a bit boring. The J cabin looks quite good though and I noticed some very cheap fares out of MIA to various points in Europe too.
