Baseball Charters 2016 Season

Wed Mar 30, 2016 5:11 am

With baseball season upon us, I was interested to see what teams are chartering with which airlines. I am sure of the following:

New York Yankees - Delta Air Lines
New York Mets - Delta Air Lines
Boston Red Sox - Delta Air Lines
Atlanta Braves - Delta Air Lines
St. Louis Cardinals - Delta Air Lines

Detroit Tigers - Olympia Aviation MD-82

Colorado Rockies - Monfort Aviation Boeing 727-200

Toronto Blue Jays - Air Canada

Chicago Cubs - United Airlines
Chicago White Sox - United Airlines
Cleveland Indians - United Airlines
Kansas City Royals - United Airlines
Washington Nationals - United Airlines
Houston Astros - United Airlines
San Diego Padres - United Airlines

These are just the few teams that I know of, does anyone know any information about what teams are chartering which airlines?

Thank you in advance.

Interesting that the Nationals charter United yet Delta is the official airline of the team...

The Cincinnati Reds switched to United last year after being with Delta for a long time. I believe that was because Delta made fewer 738s available forcing teams to take 752s (presumably at a more expensive cost) or look elsewhere.

N682RW is not a chartered aircraft. It's owned by Mike Ilitch, owner of the Tigers and Red Wings.

Happens in the NFL too, ie: B6 is the official airline of the N E Patriots, (before that AA for years) yet the team flies DL.

Same in Toronto. WestJet is the 'official' airline of the Blue Jays, they even sponsor the outfield standing room area. However the team has never in their history flown WestJet.

The Cubs have AA advertised behind home plate yet fly UA. As others have said it's very common.

What ever happened to the 757 the Giants were purchasing in Feb 2015?

Oakland and Texas use MLW Air (Same as the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks),

Texas also occasionally uses AA if the MLW charter is unavailable.

I think the San Francisco Giants 757 was actually a lease from Vision Airways which turned into a 767-200. I heard they pimped out the inside, supposedly. The Marlins were using the same plane and then switched to Eastern, I am not sure if they are using Eastern this year.

That's because the OP is wrong. They're flying DL this year. See http://news.delta.com/delta-steps-pl...icial-airline-washington-nationals ("Under Delta’s new agreement with the Nationals, the airline will fly the team to and from every away game.").

The Arizona Diamondbacks in years past flew USAirways, which was inherited by AA last year with the merger. So I am thinking they are sticking with AA this year.

I believe UA has the Phillies this year.

UA doesn't serve TPA from PHL, so I think this is the team charter back home from Spring Training.

The D-Backs will continue to fly AA this year.

The Dodgers appear to split their time between AA and UA with no apparent rhyme or reason.

Anybody know who is flying the Marlins? I know that in years past they've used Miami Air, and Delta, but are they using Eastern this year?
On a related note, it's good to see Eastern still doing good with their charter operation!

All full size, the above DL flights on 738, 739 and 752. After NBA is over there might be a flight or two but not normally.

If Rangers are with MLW, then the flights are operated by Atlas, apparently.

The Cubs have been flying United for years. They were flying United back in 1984, when they won the NL East, ending the 39-year post-season drought.

The White Sox have flown anyone and everyone. I know they have flown America West and the original Midway Airlines. In the 2005 post-season, they were flying AA.

To reiterate my contribution...please see the above list as it is OFFICIAL. As one can see, I do not post much for obvious reasons. This list was made available to United employees within the past several days, although I knew whom were we flying prior to. I feel fortunate and privileged to actually be able to dispatch these flights and teams, albeit coming from a Tigers fan.

Oakland A's are going to use MLW this season, but here is the official statement on how the Oakland A's ended up flying to the bay area on a San Francisco Giants Branded Eastern Airlines jet..

A’s director of corporate communications Catherine Aker explained the reason for the mishap. According to Aker, the A’s have a charter contract with MLW Air and share a plane with the Dallas Mavericks. In this case, with both the Mavericks and A’s playing away games on the same night, MLW Air used another charter, Eastern Airlines, for the A’s flight, without knowing about the plane’s Giants branding.

So is the Arizona D-Backs the only full time baseball charter for AA?

This plane has been sitting at Sky Harbor since January. When the Rockies finished their series with the D-Backs they flew to Denver on the Arizona Coyotes 734 (N129AC) which is operated by Paradigm Air Operator. I don't know the status of the 727, it was still parked at PHX yesterday.

Always amused me that the Phillies don't use AA (and US before that) despite having a sizeable hub at PHL right down the street. I remember them using DL a few years back when they were good and were competing in the World Series, but now I do see where UA has a large ad on the left field wall at the ballpark, so UA it is!
