Thu Mar 31, 2016 11:36 am

N105UA operating UA930 appears to have left some debris on the southern runway. The fire service are in attendance and a few missed approaches as a result.

For the record, it happened on landing, while arriving from SFO.

Flights appear to be landing as usual again.

Aircraft has been towed away now, after spending some time on the taxiway.

Blown tire(s) on landing, maybe? I've seen it a few times, and the runway gets closed for a while as Ops conducts a sweep for debris.

It was a blown tire on arrival. Two tires were replaced and the flight 949 back to SFO delayed three and a half hours.

Flying at the cruising altitude is (mostly) boring. I wish all flights were nothing but endless take offs and landings every 10 minutes or so.

A blown tire is hardly significant and is a very trivial matter.

Try tell that to the families of the passengers and crew of AF4590.

How many times a year are tires blown on landing or take off? How many of these blown tires end up with the aircraft's crash?

AF4590 put in light a design weakness of the aircraft thanks to a blown tire.

Tell that to the daily mail who are no doubt working on a headline along the lines of 'Terror on Flight From USA' as we speak (or type)

Hardly the same. You are taking the United incident out of context.

My advice to OP is to stop wasting his time posting this trivia to the Forum but I acknowledge it is his choice. It's just another minor incident in the day to day activities of running of a major airline; no need for in depth analysis and substantial comment. On that note, I need to heed my own advice and I'm out of here.

What do you mean a first? First blown tire in the history of aviation?

This isn't uncommon and happens on planes just like it happens on other vehicles that use tires.
