When Did QF Start LAX?

Fri Apr 01, 2016 11:55 pm

I'm curious as to when QF first started flying into LAX, and what route it was by? I believe SFO was their primary US port until well into the 1980s

I flew on VH-ECA on the HNL-SYD sector 3 weeks after the first flight. LAX was about 3x/week with the combi. LAX and SFO flights met at HNL and flew within 30 minutes of each other to SYD. My flight had less than 30 pax on board while the SFO flight (adjoining gate) appeared full.

Its amazing to have seen the massive shift really in their focus from SFO to LAX over that time.

The amount of Australia-US non-stop capacity these days is huge, which is impressive given the sector lengths involved.
