SAO PAULO - TAM performed today, 04/04, its last commercial A330-200 flight, on the MEX-GRU route. The flight was operated by A332 PT-MVQ. As of today, all A330 operations have been replaced by B763 or A359.
TAM says this is part of the fleet modernization process, which will continue with the introduction of new, more efficient aircraft, like the A350 and 787.
Some A330s are still on hold, and may be deployed only in case of necessity, according to TAM.
Sure is the end of an era for TAM! I've had good experiences aboard their A332s.

The awkward part of JJ long haul is that they really blast their aircon. Some say Asian airlines tend to be warm .... well JJ was the 180° contrast. On my JFK-GIG 763 flight back in Nov'15, I was wearing 3 layers including a winter coat PLUS the blanket over my head and still shivering for the full 10 hours.
This wasn't a problem when I flew their 332 back in 2011 on my way to EZE. (just an anecdote, nothing related to the plane types)
I'll give them some credit - their 763 has 777-style Sky interior plus 16:9 capacitative AVOD in economy (as opposed to ancient resistive touch technology). The interior was also well maintained. If you lied and said this is a new variant called "767-8X", some might actually believe you. =p

The 767s are very new build aircraft. Some as new as 2013/14.

I believe their new 767's are former LAN birds, LAN took delivery of new 767's just a few years ago so in many cases they are more modern that the TAM A332's are far as comfort, amenities, etc.

I haven't read much, but I perceive as JJ taking RG's place and Azul being the new JJ. Is this real? Or just some non sense from my side?
Is the long haul fleet downsizing? Still JJ has the biggest widebody fleet in all Latin America.

I just managed to catch a sighting of the A332 last month in Bogota. They will be missed. Never knew they were coming off service so soon.
On another topic with TAM. Wasnt TAM supposed to debut the A350 to Madrid on 4th April? I still see the flight is being operated by a 77W.

Yes, they were originally going to get rid of the 767s when they only had a small fleet of 3 ex-AZ planes. That decision was reversed several months later and it was decided that newer 767s (all but two less than 5 years old) would be shifted from LAN to TAM as the former airline received 787s to replace the 767s in their fleet. They did get rid of the older ex-AZ planes though.
I think this is around the time that they decided to cut First class. The 767s and A332s have about the same number of seats except the A330s were three class and the 767s two class. I guess they figured the A332 markets couldn't handle many more seats (as the A332 seat count obviously would have grown if they reconfigured out the First class).

Right. The only aircraft to still offer F seating are some of the 77Ws (if not all).
As for the A/C some are mentioning... it's true. All the times I've flown with TAM the aircon has been blowing ice cold. They usually set it to under 20C from the way it feels.

Sad to see those birds go! Some of my most memorable fights were on JJ A332's (MIA-GRU).
I'll be riding the new A359 next month from GRU-MIA, a welcome change even though the A330 is my favorite aircraft.

The A330-200 will always have a special place in TAM history since its was the plane which launched TAM beyond Brazil and Latin America's shores to Miami and Paris CDG in 1998. TAM survived many obstacles in Brazil's airline industry seeing all its competitors collapse, long live Varig.

This is very relevant. TAM is currently the only carrier in Brazil to have existed in the 20th century. The only one that is still around. Not going to lie though, a part of me still hopes for an RG revival. Though I know that's as unlikely as a PA resurrection.

Well, fleet is now 16xB767-300ER including 1 cargo frame plus 10xB777-300ER. Long ago, JJ long haul fleet once reached 32 widebodies.

Yes, they first started mixing 1xB767 then 1xA330 and now is full Boeing 767 operation. LA transferred mostly all recent 767 deliveries as LA's adds Boeing 787's to its fleet, but LA has also retired oldest Boeing 767 and has even sold a few cargo B767s.
