EK/QR A380 Bar And Turbulence?

Wed Apr 06, 2016 10:45 am

Who's been in the bar area on the A380 when the aircraft encounters turbulence? I've flown a lot on the upper deck of QF A380s in this section in Economy/Premium Economy and find this to be a particularly bumpy part of the aircraft. Is this bar area as "serene" as it looks in photographs?

In EK there is a seats with belt, when the seatbelt sign is on you will be asked to sit and fasten your seatbelt in the lounge area. Service as usual if the captin didn't ask the crew to stop it.

If you time it right the aircraft turbulence and the alcohol induced turbulence balance each other out.

Sorry Couldn't resist.

I haven't been in the bar during turbulence but during one flight have heard an announcement that for safety reasons the bar is closed.

A bigger problem would be the shower. There you just sit down and hold onto the safety rail.

I've been in the shower in mild chop which was slightly off-putting but really you are only in there for 5/10 minutes. From memory there is no handrail in the shower.

LOL those bars are boozy!

I'll never forget sitting at the bar on one flight out of Australia speaking to one of the flight crew and looking down on electrical storms in the northern territory. Whilst not turbulent, a very memorable weather event!

True that you are only in there for a few minutes but once you've stripped off, should it get more than slightly choppy you can't very well run back to your suite.

Fortunately there is a handrail in the shower, albeit a short one. It is located just above the seat. I've taken the liberty of including a photo to refresh the memory.

I don't even remember the seat being there let alone the rail, though I blame the booze for that.
A thoroughly lovely way to wake up after the Dom and a few cocktails in the bar.

We were advised that we would need to return to our seats on SIN-DXB due to turbulence.
We asked whether we would be able to sit in the seats at the bar, but were told no.

Last time we had some rough air in the bay of bengal area coming back from melbourne, we were at the bar seat belt signs went on so we started to go back to our seat, cabin crew (who were closing all the cupboard behind the bar) said it wasnt safe enough to walk back to our seats and to use the seatbelts that were in the seating area in the bar.

So we did.

It's a raw, open wound. The shower screams when you step on it.

It's literally Musical Chairs. Hear the chime and scramble for the 6 (IIRC) places with seatbelts. Miss out and you're back to your seat.

Shows how you forget! Thanks for the reminder. Although my experience might have been after a few drinks ha!
