With delivery count currently at 9,600 something, it should be safe to assume that Airbus delivery #10,000 will be taking place during the year.
Do we have any information on this, when, what customer or what model that delivery "10K" will be?
There will of course be some marketing hoopla around this but will Airbus custom choose which frame to assigned #10,000 or will it just be a random one?
Anyone heard anything regarding this or have any other insight?

I would imagine Airbus would reward such a milestone aircraft to a customer and region they value very highly, rather than it being just random, but we will see.

Just like with Boeing and Embraer milestone deliveries, they will coordinate a bit that the airline at least likes the attention it will generate. Say if the random #10.000 would be a tax evading VIP who spends his Panamean laundry money on a 319ACJ, of course he would hate any hoopla around it. Like the nightmare of buying condoms to be greeted by the press being the # million client of the drugstore.
If I'd do a bet, they will manipulate a bit to make #10.000 an A-350, A-380 or 320NEO rather then something a bit ordinary. Combined with another jubilee, like the first or the 50th delivery of a certain type to a good client.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

I think there's a risk if this delivery goes one of the ME3 or TK that the others will moan to Airbus that they are not seen as important enough that it wasn't them that was chosen for this milestone.
Might be best diplomatically if someone like LH was chosen, perhaps with the first A350 delivery. After all, apart from the 318, 332 & cargo versions, LH have operated every Airbus type.

I really hope it doesn't amount to that. It would make Akbar Al Baker look mature and patient. Sure it's a milestone with a nice number attached to it, but it's much more of an event for Airbus and just a vanity bragging right for whoever gets delivery of it.

Pretty certain that it won't be that random. But I would bet that most normal customers would love the extra attention of the 10K event.
IMHO, the most fitting model to be #10,000 would be an A320neo since it symbolises mordernity, success and volume.

It could be the first VX plane wearing the Alaska Airlines colours, that will be a nice touch, American, from Seattle and previously only Boeing fleet.

Norwegian Air Shuttle or rather their leasing company will start receaving their first of a 100 Airbus 320 neo this year. Norwegian Air Shuttle receaved the 6000th Boeing 737 a few years back.

I'm sure that 1) it will be a big Airbus customer, 2) it will be either an A350 or an A320neo, Airbus's most forward-looking types at the moment, and 3) no one else will be offended in the slightest. Reasonable candidates are LH, SQ, CX, and QR on the A350 line, and LH, QR, 6E, AK, and U2 on the A320neo line.

Given the planned 320 family rate increases and the A350 ramping up I suspect that the time interval is going to continue coming down.
