Saw in the LA spotters group that their was a Kenya Airways 787 at LAX. Why is it there? Possible look at new service?

I think 2 of them are going to Oman Air, but even Oman Air is not serving LAX, maybe some kind of charter, few weeks ago one of the dreamliners was flying non stop from NBO to VCV, so maybe this is the one in LAX doing some kind special flight.

Time ago KQ was considering NYC as first USA destination, I don't think LAX makes any sense for them, I see 0 chances, by the way KQ is not doing very good, a big number of staff is going to be jobless soon and they are even trying to relocate some B777 pilots in ET, but unions won't allow that easily.

It also considered MIA its first USA destination at some point, and there was even a consortium formed on the US end to assist them in financing an additional 777 to help make that happen.
Ultimately, as we can clearly see: nothing came of it though.

Given that they are "Wet" leasing pilots to ET, is it possible they wet leased a B787 to ET for a service?

The plane is to be repainted at VCV into Oman Air colors. The new registration will be A4O-SZ

No, the pilots going to ET are B777 pilots and KQ no longer fly the B777, that's why they are trying to send the pilots to ET, but we will see if that finally work out, pilot union in KQ is very strong and always ready to fight.

Is it the same one that flew a few days ago from NBO to VCV in a direct flight or is it the second one??

Yep, this is it. Was supposed to fly to VCV, not sure why it ended up at LAX.

Other international carriers fly direct to VCV though, remember SQ 773 a month ago?

Is the repainting process of a 787 different from any other plane? From what I understand you can't use the same chemicals to strip other planes on a 787.

Good point, but then again you add landing fees at LAX which can't be cheap and you wonder if it makes a difference. Especially considering their first to be repainted flew directly to VCV during the day.
