28 New B738 Delivered To FR In The Past 3 Months!

Fri Apr 22, 2016 2:07 pm

http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Ryanair-active-b737ng-315-ddasc.htm

Delivery No. 28 EI-FRH has just landed at DUB, arriving direct from BFI.

Delivery No.1 this year occured on January 22nd, meaning that 28 brand new aircraft have been delivered in the space of only 13 weeks. How many more deliveries are scheduled for this year? I knew there would be a number of new deliveries but not this many!

Just speculating, it could be many of Ryan Air's early 737-800 are coming off lease and these are the replacements. Also spring would be the time for new planes as the summer season starts soon.

Certainly some are leaving the fleet, although one would normally expect to see that effect in Oct-Dec post-Summer season. An example of one leaving recently: EI-EBB has gone to Jeju Air in Korea (delivered ex-DUB last week).

FR (along with a lot of European leisure focused airlines) has a history of taking deliveries in the run up to April ready for the summer season (although in 2015, FR did take quite a lot of new 738s in Oct/Nov/Dec as well).

If you look over the last year and a bit, FR has taken a lot of 738s: EI-FIA (del Feb 15) through EI-FIZ, EI-FOA through EI-FOZ, EI-FRA through to EI-FRH so far (aircraft up to EI-FRK have flown).
Flown in: A20N,A21N,A30B,A306,A310,A319,A320,A321,A332,A333,A343,A346,A359,A388,BA11,BU31,(..56 more types..),VC10,WESX

I was at DUB on Wednesday, and from watching the movements most of them seemed to still be based there. Flew on one and the Sky Interior is a vast improvement on the old interior, and the seats definitely seem to offer more legroom. I think it's massively upgraded the FR experience.

That is an impressive job, they must have a good process in place to handle that pace.

I guess these will be the best planes to fly on, as the future Max200s may offer an inferior product to the customer...

FYI these new deliveries have slimline seating which offers 2 inches more legroom than what LH has on its new A320neo aircraft and what BA has on its A319s. The additional seating in the MAX should reduce legroom to bring FR in line with the likes of these mainline carriers.

So how many 737-800 does FR operate currently?

I drive I-5 5 days a week by Boeing Field and there is always a FR plane on the ramp. Sometimes I've seen 3. Figured it was a heavy amount of deliveries but had no idea that many!

i.e. these latest 738s are a sweet spot for Ryanair flyers

That's very impressive, 31 x 738s in under 4 months. Is this a record for any airline or just FR?

Good on FR to play the legacies at their own game, BA, LH have reduced pitch the last couple of years and become LCC on short haul and now the likes of FR have built their megafleets and expanding pitch and service.
