AA 787s to ORD

MAN can have 3 A380s in at the same time (with suggestion that should the need have arisen, 6 could have been in!)

So per what I put in the thread title. summer 2017 may see:

4 weekly PVG by Air China
daily PEK by Hainan
2 weekly XIY by Hainan.

Routesonline seems to have broken the story. Can't wait for the confirnation.

Then the hoped for expansion by CX to daily to HKG.

Other news: TOM going to Santa Clara and Olbia next year with SV having started 787 ops

I believe it's still planning permission stage but things should be progressing come the year end.

TCX started their LAX run a couple of days ago. 294 passengers outbound and a pretty good 111 inbound.... which is not too bad given this is tending to be a route for the northern UK passenger. Perhaps this is the pent-up demand from West Coast USA?

FR has announced services to WRO for the winter.

Interesting news about the potential China services, not too long until PEK is launched. Anyone have any news on CX potentially going daily into MAN? Will the 77W stay on the route?

No more news yet on CX. I imagine that though they may have envisaged a daily A350 but my gut instinct is they may want the 77W to still be on the route due passenger loads and cargo.

SQ could be the one to launch the 1st A350 route though. Winter 2017 appears to be aim.

CX are suffering from the A350 delays like everyone else.. Probably will stay at 4 weekly 77W for now.

I see Hainan are advertising on Facebook, but they are mentioning the MAN-PEK route begins on October 23rd? All other sources say June 10th - which I know is true.

Why would the airline advertise the wrong dates?

April passenger numbers released by the Airport

1.92 million passengers (up 11% over April 2015)
23.73 million passengers for the rolling annual total
Freight up 9% to take the moving annual total to 104,228 tonnes
approx 12% increase in aircraft movements compared to April 2015

VY had an incident on pushback on Saturday on thier route to BCN. Thankfully the tug driver wasn't injured. Replacement aircraft took the passengers out.

SQ sent in a 747F today coming in from somewhere via SHJ. Just a 3 to 4 hour turnround,

AC is replacing Rouge on the YYZ route from 3rd July to 24th July with flight numbers being slightly familiar i.e. AC842/843.

Lastly, the inaugural BOS route from MT was today.

Norwegian launch of the AGP and ALC routes

The report contains this:

Thomas Ramdahl, chief commercial officer at Norwegian said: “Norwegian’s expansion plans at Manchester are only at the beginning."

There are suggestions for a number of based aircraft next year including 787s,

Report on the 1st service

There were some intriguing comments from the MAN CEO Charlie Cornish:

"We are talking to Air China about the opportunity of a route from Manchester to Shanghai - discussions are well progressed, bilateral rights have been agreed.

“I think what’s important is we need to work with a number of airlines to make routes work and make them viable and profitable."

The inaugural services inbound and outbound had over 90% loads and has been reports that loads are above 60% through to October/ Possibly the best route start for a Chinese airline long-haul service for a while?

MAN-PVG on CA is now given a 6 to 12 month timescale due to slots issue at PVG.

The May traffic figures were released today - up 7.22% to 2,244,180 passengers with the moving annual total now standing at 23,881,688 passengers. Freight was also up by 6%

On MAN's Wikipedia page (yes, I know this isn't always the best source), it says that Air China is starting its route to Shanghai on 1st September 2016 - is this true? Seems quite soon to be starting a new route like this...

I always thought MAN was A332 and 77W.

8herveg short answer No and i keep removing it. Right now its vandalism.

Air China has not made any official announcements and their is no third party verification.

If its been added again i'll remove it at once.

Now as to whether Aie China will start PVG-MAN they do have authority we know that and there has been several rumours and coded messages and i am sure something is a brewing.

Said issues are slots at PVG as China Eastern are probably pressurising the CAAC for competitive access at Beijing on a quid pro quo basis.

Chinese politics at work.

Shaheen air have added a 4th Weekly ISB flight from July 4th.

Tunisair add 2 weekly TUN-MAN from July 3rd until Aug 28th on A320 TU8590/8591

DHL return in Sept with an A300 to Leipzig

Cobalt start 2 weekly Larnaca from 7th Sept, which will actually be the airlines inaugural route.

Korean Cargo rumoured to begin 2 weekly B77F in September.

Manchester has had 60 confirmed new routes so far in 2016, and already 11 in 2017.

Finnair upgrading the morning Helsinki flight to daily A319 from 27th March 2017.

25th May 2017 also sees a one off scenario where the VS/DL partnership run 2 flights to JFK. The VS127 departs 1040, the DL221 departs 1245. This is due to the crossover when Delta hands the route to Virgin.

Air China expected to commence 4 weekly Shanghai on 1st November 2016. Anna.aero has recently analysed that PVG-MAN is the 5th largest China-Europe route that remains unserved, and actually the 3rd largest Shanghai-Europe that remains unserved.

The AA B788 saga seems to continue. Today's AA55 is 5 hrs late departing and seems to have an issue, judging by its track on fr24, where it turned off the runway after a short roll and seems to be returning to stand.

Virgin have listed Manchester-Detroit as a direct route on their destinations page, awaiting further information.

I think the most likely scenario is that DL will operate DTW with a B763 during the summer when VS operate the A333 to JFK. At the end of the summer DL will take back JFK and the VS aircraft will be redeployed.

However, there were some quotes by the VS CEO recently which confirmed the widely held view that VS now see MAN as a "hub" and not an "outstation". Subject to economic conditions, I think it is reasonable to expect a degree of VS expansion from MAN over the coming years. Whether that is limited to transatlantic routes or not remains to be seen.

The redevelopment and expansion of the airport seems to be starting to move along with the firm Laing O'Rourke being selected, they also constructed Heathrow's T5.

The article states that "enabling works could now start before the end of the year".

Personally, I can't wait for T1 to be demolished. I flew from T1 the other week and arrived back on Tuesday and was reminded of the terrible layout of the pier where to get to some gates you must go down some stairs to come back up the other side.

It will be nice to see that Manchester's main terminal will be modern and state-of-the-art, especially with the increasing amount of long haul flights.
