Christiano Ronaldo Buys A G-200. Neymar's Seized

Sat Apr 30, 2016 10:32 pm

Supposedly he owns a condo in the Trump Tower in New York and likes to spend time in Los Angeles... that G-200 won't be able to get him there non-stop from Europe
I'm surprised he settled for a G-200...I'd thought he'd go top-shelf, G-550, G-650 or Global 6000/5000

http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/cr...mself-a-e19m-private-jet-pictures/

meanwhile Neymar's private Jet to be seized by Brazilian authorities due to tax-evasion

I wonder what Messi owns????

Cristiano*
And why go for an expensive jet he will only get to use the month and a half break he has during the summer and the week and a half during the holidays in December.

Likely he doesn't have the money for one. Very few individuals own bizjets of that size. But I am surprised he went with the G200 considering you can get a Challenger 300 for that sort of money these days, and that's a better airplane in pretty much every way compared to the G200.

Can't see why footballers would need to own their own private jet, when for so much of the season their movements are entirely controlled by their clubs or national team, and the amount of time off is so limited...

Ego. Michael Jordan had a private plane when an active player too, and definitely has one now.

If time off is limited then you can maximize it by owning your jet, ready to take off ASAP to your villa on the beach. Not on the other side of the planet though.

I don't follow football too closely but I seem to remember a story about a team not too happy about players doing just that and partying too hard, so they wrote in their contract that they had to travel with the team.

I can see a guy like Ronaldo buying a smaller jet to do a commute. Kobe Bryant flew from his home in Orange County in a helicopter to the Ritz Carlton next to the Staples Center for his last few years.

Bill Gates once said his greatest splurge and guilty luxury was his private jet. It's justified when you consider it saves invaluable time when you're a busy and/or important person, not to mention the benefits of comfort and privacy. It must be exhausting to be a highly famous person traveling in public and not being able to catch a break from fans asking for autographs, pictures etc.

That is exactly the case, I work in events in one of London's 5 star hotels, and we get a lot of football teams. Barcelona flew together on an Iberia A330 charter, and all teams require the mini bar to be empty and that no women are on their floor. Of course there are strict dietary requirements as well.

Only managers arrive separately, but the team always travels together.

With the range of 3400nm it could still go TATL right?

Okay so lets say we buy a jet and tend not to use it too often?

Do we have flight crew sitting around but being paid?
Do the flight crew take it flying to keep up their hours?

Or when we do travel how much dies it cost to put the flight crew in hotels.

How does it all work for an owner?

Quite a bit. The crews are getting paid by the owner, regardless if the aircraft is being used or not. Thats why you have flexibility with you own jet.

Today, its much cheaper just to rent a jet rather than having your own. Unless money doesn't play a big role, then having your own is no big deal.

Many private jet owners only scarcely use their jets. To help pay for all the fixed costs, they often use secialized agencies which rent the jet to third parties when the owner doesn't use it. These also manage the crewing and all associated operational requirements.

In general, aircraft in that class need a fuel stop going west across the Atlantic but can go east non-stop. So EWR-MAD would be fine, MAD-EWR would not.

Quoting mandala499 (Reply 20):
Having stepped on board both the G280 and the Challenger 350, the latter is a lot nicer...

The article said it was a G200, not a G280. The G280 is a very different airplane from the G200, so I was basing my statement on that.

Quoting goosebayguy (Reply 23):
Okay so lets say we buy a jet and tend not to use it too often?

Do we have flight crew sitting around but being paid?

If you want them to be available if you need them, then yes you need to pay them. You could only pay them for the time they're flying, but then you'd either have to pay a very high hourly rate or they'd need to take second jobs to make enough money to live on (if you paid $200 per hour, which is quite high in the airline world, they'd still only be making $60,000 per year because the average private jet doesn't fly much more than 300 hours per year, and many fly less than that). And if they're going to have to take other jobs, they're going to not be available sometimes if you need them because they have other obligations. Much easier for everyone to just pay them a salary and be done with it.

Quoting goosebayguy (Reply 23):
Do the flight crew take it flying to keep up their hours?

If they think that they're getting rusty, they might. But they won't do it just so that they're building hours - it'll be for safety-related purposes. Also, it's not great for airplanes to sit around for too long either, so they make take it flying just to give it some exercise.

Quoting goosebayguy (Reply 23):
Or when we do travel how much dies it cost to put the flight crew in hotels.

About $600 per night is a good estimate. $400 for hotels (2 rooms), $100 for meals, $100 for taxis or a rental car in order to get from the airport to the hotel and other miscellaneous expenses. Sometimes hotels may cost more because of where you're going or if there's a big event there and hotel prices are raised accordingly. Or sometimes meals will cost more and hotels will cost less, but in general no matter what the actual breakdown is $600 will cover it.

Quoting LCYFlyer (Reply 24):
Today, its much cheaper just to rent a jet rather than having your own.

Depends. If you don't use the aircraft much, then chartering is better. But if you use it a lot, it's better to have your own. It's much like a car - you have to pay for insurance and parking anyway, so if you only use it a few times a year, then rent one for those times and you'll come out ahead. But if you're renting five times a month, then having your own car starts to make a lot more economic sense.

They may fly in together, but do they always fly out together? I've seen professional teams let their players do their own thing after a game. It's good practice to require a team to report at home before an away game to make sure no one misses "the bus," but when the game is over and the players have a few days off, does the team care whether they all leave on the charted A330? So what if some jump in their G200 to go see their boyfriend while other take MegaBus to enjoy the scenery and the adulation?

Formula One is more or less the same thing. Everyone, including contractors, travels together from home base to the track whether by road or air. After the race, contractors are free to make their way home however they see fit. If there is a mandatory break before the next race, team members can also go straight home, wherever that may be.

With the range of 3400nm it could still go TATL right?

Eastbound yes, westbound almost no chance to do MAD-TEB (for example) non stop with a G200.
True TATL midsize bizjets are CL604 and Falcon 2000EX.
The G200 is also a "runway hog" ! The G280 is far better, thanks to its new wing.

Okay so lets say we buy a jet and tend not to use it too often?

Do we have flight crew sitting around but being paid?
Do the flight crew take it flying to keep up their hours?

Or when we do travel how much dies it cost to put the flight crew in hotels.

How does it all work for an owner?

Most of the bizjets owners place their aircrafts into management companies. (Cristiano Ronaldo does too)
The company takes care of maintenance, crew , flight operations, operating commercially the aircraft when the owner does not use it, ...
Aircraft management allows cost savings and reduce ownership hassles.

The average business jet utilisation is less than 400 hours yearly.
The crew stays at home (and is paid for that or course) if no flight or in hotels if away from home.

G200s can be had cheap at the moment. I highly doubt he spent $19m on it....

I agree. Most of the G200 are $4m to $6m !

No one's ever rapped about a Challenger... A G200 is not a G6, but it's like it... kinda!

If price wasn't an issue, 100% of G200 owners would change for a CL300/350

The G200 is a renamed IAI Galaxy... nothing to do with Gulfstream.
The G280 is an other story, it received a lot of improvements (new wing, new engines, new T-tail, new wing anti-ice, new flight deck, ...)

Wrong...

Quoting foxxray (Reply 36):

Mostly Right!

There is no right answer people. Some have the means to own and operate a Global on their own...some require a management company to take care of the Lear 35. As you Brits say..horses for courses. I am always amused at the know-it-alls on this forum. Including me!

The way I understand the article, C. Ronaldo actually bought a G280.

Just the highest paid athlete in the world except for 2 boxers. Estimated net worth of 420 million $.

I find it a more interesting topic than discussing Trumps 757.
