RE: New AA Painted Aircraft - Part 7

Wed Sep 03, 2014 12:28 pm

I must say I am very disapointed in the way it looks. We were under the assumption from what we were told that the nacells were going to be the same color as the rest of the aircraft. This looks like a cheap and rushed paint job. Unacceptable in my opinion.

RE: New AA Painted Aircraft - Part 7

Wed Sep 03, 2014 1:11 pm

Ok, here is another update. There's been a lot of movement here lately of aircraft going in for paint coupled with new deliveries so I hope I have gotten everything correct. Thanks to all who keep contributing especially with the US movements.

There are a couple of things I have trouble with and one is that 199 Envoy aircraft will be repainted. Save the 140 aircraft which I doubt will be repainted, Envoy will have a fleet of 164 aircraft.

Another thing I find hard to believe is that all Envoy CR7's are not yet painted. We seem to be missing one aircraft (N534AE) If anyone sees it in new paint please let me know.

It looks as if the first SA)">AA 757 is schedule to return to service late this week from paint.

Thanks DTW757 for your hard work.
We are all looking forward to see the first 757 and A330 in the new colors as well as retro liveries applied on 738s.

From what I read recently in another thread one US A319 or 320 will be left in the current US livery and one 738 will be left in the old AA bare metal livery.

It is now obvious that no MD-80 will be reprinted.

What about ERJ-140s? I haven t see them in the fleet update.

I would find it hard to believe that any of the 44 seat aircraft would see paint. In fact 13 of them have already been parked.

I can't thank you enough for keeping up the counts for us dtw757. One suggestion about N838AW is to denote it "America West Ver. 2 Heritage Scheme or something to that effect.

Thanks,
Ryan

Why are the engines gray? Seems like a strange color choice that doesn't blend very well with the rest of the fuselage.

My only guess is that they chose a darker color for the landing gear and nacelles for ease of cleaning and maintenance.

Or as a contrast to prevent someone from walking into the prop from a side angle.

It seems like the color for the engines on the Dash 8 is the same used for the "American Eagle" titles. It still looks mismatched, but it's not like I'm going to see it at my station anytime soon.

Ever see the side of a DHC-8 engine? Fuel/oil streaks, soot stains, muddy tire spray, etc. Maybe all that would show up too easily on the lighter body paint and the darker paint on the engines will look better over usage? I find I like the contrast between the hull and the engines/gear. Might have less reflected glare in the cabin as well.

I see they kinda emphasized the Piedmont logo by the door. It almost looks better than the new flight symbol. I wonder what it would look like red white and blue.

Prior to N838AW returning from ROW to PHX, it looks like another A319 went in for paint as AWE9240. Any ID for this one?

They will not. They've already begun retirement. There are only 7 left, all to be gone by the end of next year.

Hi,

Does anybody happen to know the reason why N673AN is stored? Last time I checked she was in the newer batch of 35 which wasn't being removed anytime soon.

muddy tire spray

If there is mud on the tires, that's a whole different issue. It has been at least a couple years since the last time that happened.

N5ET on the AA side, if that helps.

N185AN is the 757 that has been in ROW for paint.

She is scheduled DFW-MCO this evening.

I'll miss it tonight, but hopefully she'll RON and be around in the morning.

On an unrelated note, I saw the newly painted 193UW next to the newly delivered 583UW a few hours ago, and there is quite a noticeable difference in the gray fuselage paint. The overall job was very nice, but the re-paint was clearly a shade or two lighter, and looked a bit "weathered" or patchy. 583UW had a glossy finish with a depth that came from the factory. Hopefully, this was an anomaly. The US 319s I have seen look better.

Anyone else notice this?

Another 752 flew to ROW this morning, anyone know which? Possibly N187AN?

It could be varying quality among the paintshops. The 319s are painted at ROW, but the 321s are painted at GUS. From what you're saying, maybe GUS needs to step up their game or perhaps needs a simple QA audit?

Hi everyone (and in particular, AA Experts   ),

I am flying on AA 2234, MIA-TPA, in F on a 738. What's the chance that I'll get a 738 with AVOD? A 738 with BSI? Or just a normal 738 config without any fancy doodads?

Thanks all,

-LPDAL

Colby, the AA 737 fleet is huge and homogeneously dispatched. There is no way of knowing which type of 737 you'll be on for the short hop to Tampa.

The first A330 . Tail number N270AY A330-323X (Which by the way was the first A330 delivered to USAirways back in 2000 as N670UW) will be out of the paint shop September 19.

Assuming perfectly homogenous dispatch, he has a 7.2% chance of getting AVOD and a 16.9% chance of seeing BSI.

According to my calculations, he has a 1 in 3 shot of getting BSI. Every 738 since N867NN has been delivered with BSI, which is roughly 80 aircraft which is almost exactly a third of the fleet of 238 aircraft, or 33.33%. (These numbers aren't exact down to the aircraft, so if you want to split hairs with me over a couple of aircraft or three, don't waste your time. I don't care.)

Your AVOD numbers sound correct, though.

Seeing that PHL-SJU is only a 320 or 757 right now, I don't think that'll happen.

I'm willing to bet it'll be PHL-LHR.

I read on the skyliner-aviation.de website that AA also plans to repaint a few 738's including one in TWA colors and one in AirCal colors. Does anyone have the dates and registration of the aircraft involved with these nice liveries? Would be great to catch those here in Curacao!!!

Pilots I know that that when the 737MAX arrives with the split winglet, they will have to be painted. The lower part of the winglet could be struck by a ground vehicle, since the silver gray just doesn't stick out.

Sort of off the subject, but when will AA start painting its ground vehicles. Here we are about a year and a half after the new livery was introduced, and every ground vehicle I've seen is still painted blue with the scissor eagle logo. Do we even know what the primary color will be for ground vehicles? They've been blue since the scissor eagle logo was introduced in the late 1960s, but they were red, back in the days of the lightning bolt liveries.
