Anybody have an explanation of why there are 4 CR2s flying around in new AA paint and no more?
The only explanations I can think of are:
1) It seemed like a good idea, and then AA decided they didn't actually intend to keep Skywest or Expressjet around long enough to be worthwhile
2) There was a contractual minimum that had to be met, and the contract carriers are not going to go an inch further on their own.
3) The CR2 fleets were discovered to be too stretched to spare any airframes for paint time.

Also, I spotted two DHC-8-100s in American colors today. However, silly me didn't write down the numbers. Based on my memory and my paperwork from work, I'm pretty sure these were the two:

ESK N816EX
ERL N839EX

Can anyone else confirm either of these?

ESK N816EX
ERL N839EX

ERL 839EX is definitely in New Paint, it was the first -100 to get it.
ESK hasn't been out of service for any 10 day length of time this month, so it should still be in USX colors, however after ERL came out of paint no other airplane ever ferried to VQQ, so I am not sure if the changed the paint location for the Dashes or painting is paused.

Also, PSA has completed all 14 CRJ-700s and sent the 1st CRJ-200, N254PS, to the shop in GUS

Okay, now that you say all that, and after I reviewed my paperwork, I realize that it was ERL that I saw both times.

So we can add that to the list: ERL N839EX (DHC-8-100)

It's because the contract with Skywest was increased by 4 aircraft when Chautauqua stopped flying for AA. The first 23 CR2 flown by Skywest and Expressjet were introduced before the new livery, and the extension was done after it, so they repainted 4 new aircraft in Eagle colors (I think they were previously in Delta colors).

Only thing I can hope is that leadership has had a sudden case of rationality and will be getting rid of the horrid CR2s instead of the much more comfortable ERJs...?

That doesn't explain why 2 of the CR2s in new paint are operated by Skywest and 2 are operated by Expressjet.

Just saw an E145 in new colors taxiing (rapidly) at DFW. It looked really good.

The contract was for 2 for Skywest 2 for Expressjet - not 4 for Skywest. The 2 Skywest are LAX based and the 2 Expressjet are DFW based. There is also a 3rd new Expressjet CR2 in DFW, but that is all white with a blue tail (Ex-UA).

Actually the way things worked out was that SkyWest got 4 aircraft, 2 painted in AA colors and 2 that are SkyWest generics, then ExpressJet added 2 aircraft. Some of these aircraft are flown at-risk also.

To answer why they haven't painted yet is because when the new scheme came out most of the CRJ-200's were just painted to enter the AA fleet, they aren't needing a repaint yet and if it was done early it would be at AA's expense. I suspect that when the contracts come up for renewal and I suspect they will, no official source other than a gut feeling, they will get repainted.

If the Philadelphia Eagle aircraft reappears from paint that means they stay.

A friend who works for US at CLT just posted a photo on his FB page - 709 arrived here this morning, wearing new, full AA colors. Looks like the NFL schemes are on the way out.

I shot this a couple of weeks ago, as it departed CLT for STL, maybe the last photo in Eagles colors. It went to AMA that night...

822 is the Nevada state flag aircraft, however I don't believe it's going to keep that title after repaint.

That arrived in CLT a short time ago, and again, it's in standard AA new paint.

Hmm, not really that surprised, I suppose. The DECS system listed that particular aircraft as in for LIVERY / EAGLES NFL PAINT. Not sure why they would list that if they were getting rid of it. But now we know.

And a few updates:

190 N190UW (A321) in GUS for paint
569 N569UW (A321) in AMA for paint
918 N918US (A321) delivered in AA paint

Non-paint update:

256 N256AY (767-200) returned to lessor (Only 4 left!)
Arrived at BFM with 88742 hours and 16498 cycles.

In the WN system A/C 713 and 715 were both marked "Shamu" and were painted in the current livery for obvious reasons. I am pretty sure that "EAGLES NFL PAINT" was just a place holder of some sort.

And it is useless to say that none of the remaining 4 will be repainted. They'll be gone very soon, before you know it. Better fly on them now before it's too late, if you want to fly on one. By then, American will definitely be 762 free for eternity. Only the 763s will remain, the retirement of those beginning this year.

I believe this Thursday, February 12, are the last scheduled flights, PHL - CLT - PHL

Um, we do know it, actually. As Moose stated, Thursday is the last flight: US767. So six more days. I wasn't trying to imply that the remaining aircraft may be repainted. I simply included that info because many people who track fleets use this thread to help with their data.

I'm sad that the Eagles plane is gone, but on a positive note, we wont have to look at a Cowboys livery.

Ok so this update grows significantly because of the addition of the PSA CR7's being complete along with new deliveries. There are probably 170's completed that we don't know about as well but I don't know. Also had to remove a 763 from the list as it is not yet in new paint.

There are probably 170's completed that we don't know about as well but I don't know.

Not on the US side. They seem to have done the newest 9 and then just forgotten about the rest. I'm sure they'll get back to them eventually.

Also, I forgot one last night:

286 N286AY (A332) in paintshop at GUS.

That leaves 4 A330s left in US paint. So we're looking at mid-march for them to be complete.

I don't think this was already asked, but why is the US heritage plane an A321, and all the other heritage jets A319s?

The A321 has become US's flagship aircraft, at least for domestic operations. With 112 in operation, and growing every month, they are the largest operator of the A321. That may have something to do with it.

I just noticed this today...I guess they're back to painting, but in no particular order now.

Also, here's a recap of the LUS process so far:

E190...0...0%
A319...20...22%
A320...3....5%....*Assuming 4 will not get paint
A321...47...42%
757.....11...46%....*Assuming 7 will not get paint
A332...11...73%
A333...9....100%

TTL...101...30%

Yes, this. Paint on the LUS A319s is quite worn out across the board, and I imagine the cost of repainting a full A319 vs replacing the logo on an almost-new A321 is significantly higher. Not to mention, doing this also saves the cost of repainting an additional A321 into AA colors.

I believe 578 received more than just a logo change. Either they applied a US Airways repaint, or did one hell of a buffer job. Because if you see it in person, it looks like a brand new airplane.

Also, it was out of service for a week (standard time for an A321 repaint). Noticeable changes are: the two logos on either side of the fuselage, the registration/ship numbers on the rear fuselage, and the aircraft type/ship numbers on the nose landing gear doors. Those three minor changes don't take a week to paint. So that's why I believe they stripped it and completely repainted it.

Interesting...I'll certainly take your word for it though. I flew on N578UW LAX-CLT a few days before the change, and the original US paint still looked incredibly fresh. Surprised they'd go to all the trouble and cost of fully repainting a new plane when they've got several in dire need of it, but then again I'm not the one making those decisions...

Many thanks for your regular updates and insights by the way. It sure is interesting to watch and follow, especially since I ride US pretty much on a weekly basis.

It was delivered last April, so only 10 month old paint job. They could've repainted the whole thing or they may have touched it up in other areas and gave it a nice cleaning. It was assumed it was fully repainted into AA colors when it went it.

Yesterday, AA took delivery of the first owned E175 which is part of the 60 orders (+90 options) placed a year ago. The first 20 will be operated by Compass Airlines, and the other 40 by Envoy Air.

The first aircraft registration is N200NN.

Compass will operate its E175s from LAX from March, replacing Mesa's CR9s, which will be moved to DFW. The first routes are LAX-DEN/IAH/SFO.

578 was also the last aircraft delivered in LUS colors, which may also be why it was chosen as a heritage jet. Similar to 838 and the HP livery.

Do you mean to say they are not even re-covering the seats? Originally I believe the plan was to replace the covers and possibly the underlying padding for a cheap refresh to bring the 763 Y seats more in line with the new international cabin "look."

Then I recall that new seat covers had been produced but there was a fit problem when they went to install them. That was the last thing I remember reading.

Has AA just completely abandoned any plans to refresh those cabins?

It's not like they only have a few dozen airplanes to paint. 1 plane out of almost 400 to isn't really saving much.

I had Heard the monitors were going to be drop down as well. But I have flown on two. Both I'm afraid were different in MC. First off neither had drop down monitors. While both had the new BC cabin, coach was different in both ac. On one coach had new sidewalls and the seats had the new seat covers as the 777300. It actually looked a lot better than before. But the other had nothing done in coach. Same old tired cabin. And no international Wi-Fi as of yet. It is coming but they ran into problems I was told and will be installed at a later date.
