The aircraft was in the above livery when it was delivered to
NZ on 16 October 1978. I know the TEAL and NAC logos were put onto the fuselage by the engineering team at Christchurch, but had never noticed that the spacing between the
NEW and ZEALAND was larger. Another photo I have from September 1980 shows the lettering correctly spaced.
This was the first B737 delivered to the amalgamated airline (i.e.after NAC was merged with Air
NZ in April 1978) and this livery was especially developed to 'match' the DC-10s that were still in the Air
NZ fleet at that time. No other B737s were painted into this identical livery.
