Where Did Korean Air Fly The 747-300?

Mon May 09, 2016 2:47 am

These aircraft had less range than the 747-200s?

I could be mistaken but these aircraft where mostly used on high density inter-Asian routes, NRT, HKG, PVG, GUM, FUK, etc. they where also used on two stop services to Australia (Brisbane and Sydney) and Canada (Vancouver and Toronto).

Higher passenger capacity in the premium classes due to the stretched upper deck was no doubt the reason. Range isn't always the #1 priority.

Immediately prior to retirement in 2005, the last 3 routes were GMP-HND, ICN-NRT and ICN-BKK.

Did they make a fuel stop between ICN and YVR?

They flew to LAX. I think via NRT.

Not a chance. A 741 could have done that route.

I'm pretty sure KE flew the 743 to LAX, though.

SQ also used the 743 SIN-ICN-YVR for a couple of years in the mid-1990s. JL used the 743 NRT-YVR for quite a few years. If memory correct, KE, JL and SQ were the only 743 operators to YVR. I don't think KE used them very often as there are only 2 KE 743 photos at YVR.

Korean flew their 743 from Seoul nonstop to LAX in the years before the 744 came along, flying time to Seoul was about 13 hours.

If I recall correctly. a Korean Air 743 made a cameo appearance in the 1990s movie "Speed" with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves; it was just a "blink and you'll miss it moment", but I'm pretty sure it was a 743.

The 743 also made several visits to HKG.

You recall correctly, however it's not like they only had one in their fleet, like MH.

How do you know it was a 743 and not a 744 in the movie Speed?

KLM also used the 743 to YVR back in the mid 90s. Though I suppose some were technically 206 SUDs.

Obviously looking at the winglets (or lack thereof) is easier, but looking at the engine differences is fun too!

Were any 743s delivered with a 744 cockpit? What happened to Korean Air's 747-300s with the long starboard galley?
