British Airways is to fly direct to both Doha & Muscat from October 30th.
Currently Doha operates via Bahrain and Muscat via Abu Dhabi.
Doha will be served with 7x 787-9 and Muscat with 5x 777.
Good to see BA opening these two routes as non-stop flights, but also will be sad to see the intra-Gulf routes gone.

I'm very happy for BA serving these two destinations, DOH & MCT have a decent O&D as many British families have friends and relatives in the GCC region.
Hope they upgrade DXB to A380.

Since the takeover of BD I think it is given wisdom that BA has plenty of slots to play with - just not the long haul aircraft to maximise the benefit of those slots.
I guess as the 789s and the last of the 380s arrive [and the curtailment of flights to Africa in particular helps offset the retirement of the remaining 767s], there might be a bit more flexibility in the long haul fleet which allows the routes to become non stop.
Also given the link to QR it isn't too surprising to me at least that DOH gets a direct service.

traction.
Plenty of expats in Oman & Qatar to use them, plus vacationers more for Oman than Qatar

The O&D is there to combine with the connection opportunities at the QR hub.

Presumably, this results in better aircraft utilisation; I'm assuming the BAH and AUH return flights will be retimed. Have the schedules been posted/loaded?
With up to 3 flights per day, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that BA could send an A380 to DXB, especially during the winter.

BA flights to Doha now arrive early in the morning which should mean more scope for onward codeshares with QR. The current late evening arrival doesn't allow for much by way of onward connections without staying in Doha overnight.

I never understood the DOH via BAH thing, with QR flying multiple daily to LHR.
Maybe Iberia or even Aer Lingus could fly to DOH? I find really surprising Qatar does not serve DUB.

BA has plenty of slots to play with; and they know they will have even more once EI is fully on-board, and BA/EI can consolidate their operations from LHR to DUB & BHD.
Slots are not so much of a problem for BA; they have more of a problem with suitable long-haul aircraft to service those slots.
I'm expecting them to expand their long-haul fleet with recent decent second hand aircraft soon.

At the start of Summer Season 2015 BA had 4,921 weekly LHR slots.
With the (temporary?) return of the Little Red remedy slots BA had 5,063 LHR slots at the start of Summer Season 2016.
To put this increase of 142 weekly slots into some form of context, note that IB currently operates a total of 140 LHR weekly slots while DL has 152 and AC and KL both have 154.
So it seems the challenge for BA has been finding the equipment and routes to use (and not to loose) these numerous additional slots.
In equipment terms they have leased two Jet Time 737 7s for the whole of the current Summer Season.
In route terms recently launched services from LHR are:
1. A twice weekly seasonal service to Biarritz launched on 1 May
2. A twice weekly seasonal service to Chenai launched on 30 April
3. A twice weekly seasonal service to Kalamata launched on 30 April
4. A daily service to Inverness launched on 3 May
5. A four-times weekly seasonal service to Mahon launched on 29 April
6. A twice weekly seasonal service to Palermo launched on 30 April
Any of the new seasonal slots could be those used for the increased flights to the Gulf Region planned for next winter after the delivery of new 787s

The question is whether QR will put their code on the BA flight. this makes a lot of sense since it gives QR an extra LHR flight to sell, which will help it put bums on seats into DOH from East Africa and Sub continent.

Everyone is talking about codeshares, but as far as I know there are limited codeshares available. Specifically, only routes BA doesn't serve in Africa and India.

Shame to see the old AUH-MCT flight going. When I worked in Dubai I did that twice as a visa run. At the time, doing the flight in First was the absolutely cheapest way to get a shed-load of tier points.

QR fly to almost 40 Asia Pacific destinations not currently served by BA. They range from Adelaide to Yangon. Some, perhaps many but probably not all could be served with a BA code share fight.
The opportunities in Africa are more limited both numerically and because some possible code share flights would require significant back-tracking on journeys originating from London. However current QR African destinations include Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam and Entebbe. These three destinations were all served by BA from London until relatively recently. However BA direct services to all three were suspended relatively recently.
