Ryanair To Expand At Niš,new Route To Bratislava

Mon May 16, 2016 2:50 pm

Ryanair is upping the game and is expanding at Niš, announcing a new route to Bratislava. Interestingly, this route might have been inspired by the success of Wizzair with the route from Skopje to Bratislava, which in same way is aiming at the Macedonian diaspora in Vienna. Ryanair is trying to do now same with the Serbian link to Bratislava.

Interesting indeed. According to Wikipedia they are also starting Nis to SXF; Ryanair's first routes in Serbia.

The Balkans are a big gap for Ryanair, they just fly to some Croatian beach destinations (Rijeka, Zadar, Pula) and and a few routes to odd airports (Osijek, Podgorica, now Nis).

Not a single capital like Ljubljana, Zagreb, Sarajevo or Belgrade. IMO places like SJJ or BEG would be ideal for Ryanair in order to stimulate city-break traffic like they have done in the past in places like VNO, BTS or RIX. No one compares to Ryanair to boost traffic in that way.

Seeing how near Bratislava is to Vienna I think these connections are aimed for the Serbian community in the both largest german-speaking cities Berlin and Vienna rather than city-break travel. Anyway, a stengthening of the ties of Serbia to Germany and Austria can only be a good thing, welcome Ryanair, welcome Serbia!
