Good news ! I'm sure that twice-weekly frequency will increase as more 789's get delivered.

With the addition of LAS, Norwegian serves 8 intercontinental destinations from LGW:

BOS
FLL
LAX
LAS
JFK
OAK
MCO
SJU
Home airport: AMS
Next flight: CNX - BKK

Wow! DY is doing well at LAS. They are also adding LAS-OSL from 01NOV.

This flight will compete with Virgin's daily flights (6x weekly in winter).

I think CDG-LAS would be a good add by DY in the future... This route was served by XL Airways France seasonally for 5 years. Now no airline serves the route.

The London - Las Vegas market now:

Heathrow
BA 11x weekly with 744

Gatwick
VS 7x weekly with 744
DY 2x weekly with 788

Stansted
MT 2x weekly seasonally with 332

CDG or AMS or OSL to AUS could work too.

No it won't. There's no bulk in that market.

Last year, Kjor said that BWI was high on the list for long haul service that would start in a year or two. Although I think service to London will happen, I'm very hopeful for BWI-Paris.

This will kill the Virgin market there.

Norwegian are developing a good reputation in London. I hear a lot of anecdotal praise for them, specifically for having brand new planes and WiFi.

It is interesting to see how quickly they are developing their long-haul network to the USA at LGW.

With DY now serving JFK, BOS, LAX, OAK, LAS, FLL and MCO they are developing quite network to the USA, albeit without the same level of frequency and onward connections as BA and VS.

There must be some nervousness at BA and VS at the speed at which DY is expanding.

Sure they are expanding fast, but have they yet turned a profit on their long haul flying?

Wish they'd fly to DFW. It's amazing mainline carriers would still be operating long range regularly without wifi, even in economy.

DY strategy classic like VS of old attack thick well established routes. Let others develop and when thick enough enter!

American has added wifi on most of their 777 and 787 fleet. Same thing with United on much of their international fleet. Not sure about Delta, but I would assume they're doing the same thing. The Legacies (including the US3 and their alliance partners) will fight airlines like DY.

Delta has completed international WiFi installation on the entire wide-body fleet and the ETOPS 757s

Yes they do. Translated from Norwegian from their IR website: "It's the international routes and long haul that is pulling the positive results".

No it really won't. VS also operate MAN-LAS seasonally and are a powerhouse for holiday packages including hotels via the Virgin Holidays brand. There is massive O&D between the UK-LAS and more than enough to share around.

BA is chasing the higher yielding business traffic at LHR and won't lose any sleep over DY's entry to the market either.

I am not sure kill is the correct phrase, but it's going to hurt them for sure.

I have typed and deleted my reply to this a few times now while I try and think of the correct way of wording it without crossing the line.....Let's try it this way.

DY will have no issues picking up corp contracts, even without the lie flat beds up front, they will have no trouble filling the planes.

DY will also have the advantage of offering connecting flights off their Euro network at LGW.

Oh I don't doubt that at all, but that's also not their target market. DY is first and foremost a leisure carrier so BA won't break a sweat over this.

If you look at how easyJet has evolved over the past 20 years they have matured into an airline that now actively pursues the corporate travel market with many of the features of legacy carriers.

As soon as DY starts adding multiple daily frequencies to key gateways like JFK they will be able to actively pursue corporate contracts and high yield business travellers.

BA lost significant ground in the European short-haul market to easyJet, from which it has only begun over the past few years to start fighting back. Neither BA nor VS can afford to lose significant transatlantic market share to DY. And although BA has significant business and first class transatlantic traffic the economy market is still important in terms of providing volume to support multiple daily frequencies to serve the business market.

I was referring more to VS than BA, VS really did drop the ball when it comes to LAS, they had the market to themselves for how long ? and still didn't think to add more flights or heaven forbid, launch out of LHR.

I'm curious what the size of the market is between LON and LAS. This addition will add up to 3 flights on some days, on 3 different airlines.

They make their own "bulk". I can't imagine that the market between London and SJU is that large either.

Right now they don't have any feed at LGW. Maybe in the future they will but not now.

How about ORD? I think that can work? BA charges 1000 USD return ORD-LHR-ORD, Norwegian is usually around 600-700 USD return for US routes out of USA! I feel they can make a killing a lot of their flights are packed.

Actually make that 4 flights a day as BA are adding a 2nd frequency on LHR-LAS, however that is not a daily flight.

They offer connections at all their hubs they fly long haul from (ARN, OSL, CPH, LGW). CDG will be without any feed as they operate their short haul flights out of ORY.

No idea, but it might not be necessary as I doubt there are any unique routes to ORY that cannot be flowed over the existing long haul hubs.

Make that 5. Thomas Cook flies twice a week seasonally from STN, up from once a week last summer. Also BA has already launched the extra flights from LHR, which operate 4x weekly.

Virgin started LGW-LAS in June of 2000. BA provided some competition from 2012 till 2016 and now DY will.

Correct, from memory it started out as twice weekly and quickly grew to 6 time weekly, then stopped.

I just priced out a quick trip home for Christmas.

VS $1302
BA $1291
DY $1198

The big difference, DY is in premium, VS and BA are in economy.

BTW, I checked a few other dates on DY, prices are rising quickly, especially in premium.

If you are flying out of USA to the UK, DY is a no brainer, in economy at least 300-400 USD cheaper than the 'legacies'. Admittedly flying out of the UK, the prices are not that much different if you take into account luggage, seat selection and food, so I haven't flown DY yet. Next LHR-LAX for me is with NZ!
