RE: QR 755 En Route To ATL

Thu Jun 02, 2016 2:02 am

Let me throw in a conspiracy theory:

Delta will hassle Boeing for earlier 787 delivery slots for later this year to commence ATL-DOH and time them perfectly to connect with a new Jet Airways/Delta interchange hub in DOH, and timed to their US and LATAM banks in ATL.
When wasn't America great?

Curious to know the margin on this flight or lack there of and future loads and RPM. I'll give them the benefit of doubt, but this seems like a money losing route.

1 hour 15 minutes to load 500 pax. Coach and bus are full.

Guess we have a source from someone actually on the flight that it really doesn't have less than 100 people in it. Some people here need to keep their wishful thinking to themselves and wait for facts before spewing nonsense.

Best of luck to QR at ATL!

See http://twitter.com/GoldboxATL/status/738141778155429888 for a live picture of the gate house. Looks to be about 70 people waiting for QR756 back to DOH.

Some posters mentioned that the only A380 gate at ATL is in Concourse E. So what is this guy doing at Gate F14? Did the plane depart from Concourse F? Am I missing something?

I think I agree with the posts below..

But the Twitter account you linked, the self proclaimed "Delta Junkie" seems to posting for the sole reason of bashing QR.. I would take it with a big grain of salt.

What an incredibly immature tweeter. He clearly has an axe to grind against Qatar, so I its not as if they can be considered an unbiased source.

See above posts about how a DL A320 was occupying the sole A380 gate, so the QR A380 is parking at a remote stand and pax are being bussed to it.

I was on the JetBlue Daytona Beach inaugural, and both flights were less than 50% full.

Not to nitpick or get off topic but I was also on the DAB inaugural (at least the flight down to DAB) and there were over 100 passengers on board. I don't know about the flight back to JFK, though.

Quoting dubaiamman243 (Reply 17):
elta has an A320 at the only A380 gate on E at @ATLairport, blocking @qatarairways

That's hilarious. I have nothing against QR and absolutely no dog in this race but that's just amusing to me.

Congrats to the City of Atlanta on this new service. Hopefully it does well and there continues to be a growth of variety in ATL.

Please don't use human rights (or lack thereof) whenever it is convenient for you. We can go on and on all day about the lack of respect some countries have to human rights (including those in the west) but like someone else mentioned above this is an aviation site. If you are so passionate about human rights get up and do something about it - whining will not get you anywhere (Delta is good case in point).

In any case, congratulations to Qatar and ATL. The A380 looks marvellous in that livery.
Hurry up, before we all come to our senses!

Congrats to the world's best airline for the successful launch of the flights to ATL! Nice to know both flights were FULL flights!

Lots of haters here but well this is what you feel when you get the worlds best airline in your home turf!

Hope to be onboard one of these flights next Jan-- not sure if I would allowed to since Muslims might be banned if the Trump wins the presidency. Canada is beautiful too, might be a good option.

Ouch. In any case, inauguration day isn't until Jan 20th. So maybe you can fly over before then and then get a free flight home

I find it fascinating that the DL fanboys believe the inaugural flights would be anything less than full. QR is one a handful of airlines well-known for giving away oodles of tickets (e.g. local blogger communities) to generate publicity for its new services, so even if it was unable to sell many seats on these flights, it'd ensure they went out full.
We don’t care what your next flight is.

A question about this hardstand/bussing fiasco. For wheelchair passengers I assume there's an elevator at or near F14 that they could take passengers down in to the busses. But once they reach the A380 what kind of lift or devices do they use to get the passengers up the stairs to the plane?

The flight was full because QR basically gave the seats away. This flight is going to perform horribly from a revenue perspective. If QR struggles in other US gateways, which they do - even with feed from AA - then ATL is going to be the worst performing US city. ATL was launched by QR for all the wrong reasons.

Yeah pretty accurate because he went around and counted every coach seat please!! lets see some facts on paper not saying it wasn't full because fares were probably VERY low and QR is not in the game to make a profit who knows why there in the airline industry in the first place conspiracy lol..

Per CNN there were "more than 500 people onboard" for what that's worth.

An airport really does not need a special A380 gate.

Yes it does. The A380 wingspan is about 50 ft more than a 777-300.

Well technically he is right, a A380 doesn't need a special gate. You just need a special gate if you want to use the gates around it too

Meaningless for diversions though. As long as you have a place to park the plane where it won't seriously block/disrupt operations then most airports can handle a diverted A380. It doesn't have to be at a gate.

Actually there are other considerations for diversions. ATL had to do some taxiway mods to allow for the extra wingspan. As it stands now the A380 in ATL is only allowed to use one runway. CLT might not have taxiway clearance for the A380.

You seem to make a lot of assumptions in one post. CNN backed the guy's figure so maybe you should keep the fan-boyism to a minimum.

If it does change to an A380, is CLT A380 ready?
I ask because ATL has severe storms at times during the summer months and the diversion airport a lot of the times is CLT for some European arrivals. If CLT isn't ready for the A380, what airport would be in this case?

If they don't expect pax to offload in such a case, GSP may be an option. We handle ATL-bound TATL diversions somewhat often in the summer. I assume we could accommodate an A380 at the ramp near the FX facility, as I've seen the AN-225 parked there on a few occasions (which is heavier and has a larger wingspan than the A380). It's closer to ATL as well.
