Newest Delta Safety Demo

It's about time the "Safety's" goes away. This is clean and fresh:

Looks like it features the newly "remodeled" 757.

From the website:
"Delta debuted an on-board safety video June 1 that highlights the airline’s global presence.

The video features 14 Delta pilots and flights attendants representing different countries and languages as the stars of the video, helping to drive the perception that Delta is a global brand. Cabin lighting and graphics throughout the video position Delta as innovative, while safety, as always, remains the focus.

Delta launched a series of safety videos beginning in late 2012 meant to grab the attention of even the most seasoned travelers by using pop culture references, surprises and guest appearances – all to communicate important safety messages. To sustain this approach, the airline has created "evergreen" safety videos such as the global-themed one that will rotate among the pop-culture flavored videos."

Interesting sound mixing...I'm pretty sure the music was louder than some of the speakers. Now put it on an actual plane with the sound of engines starting, people talking etc and half of them will be incomprehensible.

Feel like they could have shown more of their crew from countries like Korea, Philippines, France, Italy and others!

But I like the global vibe they went for.

They certainly couldn't let United be the airline peddling their global reach in safety videos. This contrast between this video and prior is so stark it really makes me question how they're trying to reposition their brand. They've publicly stated they wanted to be more "human", they couldn't do it in a more bland way in this video by simply having talking heads.

A lot of the "funny" safety videos can be tiring after a couple of flights. I prefer a simple and to the point safety video like this one.

Honestly, I'm torn. After a while Delta's joke videos can get annoying, and the "internet' one was especially bad. But, I remember flying when they were playing their '80s month' one, and many people seated around me were watching it attentively, smiling, laughing along with the jokes, etc. This one is just a video with talking heads telling you what to do, just like every other safety video ever and I can't imagine anyone paying special attention to it.

But then again, maybe it's a futile exercise. I'm sure people watching the special joke videos remember the jokes more than the actual content. It would be interesting to see an experiment where two groups were shown different videos, then had to perform emergency actions to see which video makes people retains more information.

I like the music, the graphics are a bit "iMovie" however. Overall, a nice refresh.

When the flight crew's name and country of origin were displayed, the waving graphic reminded me of wavy gravy.

Thank god. The screaming goat was horrific. The childish "funny" videos weren't professional and don't work with the current Delta branding.

So glad I won't have to listen to that crap next time I'm flying.

Goodness that was dull. Normally I don't mind a straight faced non-laughing demonstration, but what with the name and nationality of every speaker it was like this was supposed to still be light and personal. It definitely failed.

And I agree with other posters, the music is far to loud and I could barely hear some of the speakers sitting in a quiet room so there is no way that it will come over in an aircraft cabin.

The problem with the finger wave:

Quote:
simply pointing with the index finger at something or someone can be offensive in many cultures. It is considered a very rude thing to do in China, Japan, Indonesia, Latin America, and many other countries. In Europe, it’s thought of as impolite, and in many African countries the index finger is used only for pointing at inanimate objects, never at people. It’s best to use an open hand with all your fingers together when you need to point at something or someone.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gayle-...s-cultural-gestures_b_3437653.html

And yes, I've had customers mention the finger wave to me.

Call me a humorless a-hole, but I was never a fan of this fad "funny" safety videos. I appreciate professionalism first and foremost from the airlines I fly, and didn't mind a little cheekiness here and there (a la the first finger-wag in DL's videos), but it just got out of hand. They were/are all trying so hard to make them go viral, but I'd honestly prefer they'd take all that production money they spend on the videos and invest it in something more meaningful. I also agree they start to get insufferable when you have to watch them 2+ times.

And not to hijack the thread, but are those the "new" DL FA uniforms?! They look terrible, especially the 3-button suit jacket on the men! 2002 called and they want their fashion disaster back.

At some point through the video I just wanted to cover my ears with both hands and scream 'stop it already'! What a horribly produced safety demonstration. The amateurish sound mixing drowning out some really lovely, but not professionally trained voices. The rapid succession of very different ways of speaking, that never lets the audience get comfortable with one. The uninspired script, all of them planted lifelessly in the same spot, all of them hands crossed in front of them like Chinese terracotta soldiers. OK, I'm ranting.

Deltalina was professional and amusing. She also is one of the toughest instructors at the Delta Flight Attendant Training Center--tough, but always fair. Seemed like I always got her for my door drills.

We have one instructor that still makes me laugh. I was requalifying on the B757 door and when I was done she said "Now honey, I KNOW you just moved with such lightening speed to turn on those emergency lights and I just missed it. Isn't that what happened?" I said "Uh yes--the adrenaline just kicks in and you go into automatic mode." Say she "That is just what I thought happened." She could have busted my butt on that door much to my embarrassment in front of my friends and colleagues. I really did think I had turned the lights on but maybe I was in such a hurry I didn't press the button hard enough.

Not really a fan, I kept waiting for an American to show up lol, (it is a US airline). I do understand the desire to portray a global image, and certainly could see this on an international flight, but to be honest, if this is going to play on a 757 on the Jacksonville to Nashville run, it's message is going to be a bit lost. Some of the people speaking left me straining a tad to understand. I can see some Snuffy Smith saying "what the.... ?".

To me this doesn't really portray a global image, it just shows that DL has a diverse workforce. They don't even fly to Romania anymore and barely fly to Sweden. If they really wanted to show a global reach I would have expected people from the Netherlands and France, given the scale of DL's operations there. Also, agree that you can barely hear many of the different speakers.

Minor pet peeve, why does the FA at the beginning of all the DL safety videos say "OK!" before they start the announcement? Seems a bit dumb.

Regardless, I kind of like the change from the silly videos over the last couple years. Have they gotten rid of the stupid CEO message before the video? That's the one thing I'd really love to see go.

If you're going to put gray uniforms against a gray-blue background, why not just shoot in B & W?

The background music is too loud; I can barely hear what some people are saying. I can only imagine how much will be intelligible during a pushback/engine start.

I know Delta is trying to highlight their global presence, and while I underappreciated it before, United did a much better job at that in their safety videos.

I do like the straightforwardness, but something intelligible would be great.

You americans always generalize. Europe is actually slightly larger than the US and its historical heritage means that cultural differences are vast therein. In Sweden, I've never heard anyone say it's impolite to use the index finger to point at someone, even if it may be considered somewhat rude to point at someone in general. Other countries in Europe, or cultural regions for that matter, may have different customs.

Onboard my first DL flight since they launched this today and can confirm the sound mixing of this online version is not the same as what actually plays on the plane. It's easy to hear the voiceover on the plane (even with the crappy 763A speakers). I think someone on the DL PR team may have posted the wrong version to the website.

I cannot agree more. One of my pet peeves are flight attendants that think the safety demo or the PA is their first step as stand up comedians (listen up WN). A little something to catch their attention but it is still a serious subject.

I am glad that airlines are regularly changing the demo videos as they used to hang around for years. At least this way they stay fresh, especially for the frequent flyers.

Dull. At least people seemed to pay attention to the ones they'd been showing, as I've heard occasional laughs in response to some of the gimmicks. It's United's Safety Is Global, only the crews are the multicultural part as opposed to the scenery.

Also, am I the only one more smitten with Lisa (thank you, Pop Up Video parody safety video, for making me look creepy by knowing her name) than Deltalina?

The new Delta uniforms have not been unveiled. Those who have seen it are very impressed. Expectations from Zac Posen are high.

We'll see, but I have a feeling they are going to knock one out of the ballpark
Test wearing will begin sometime this fall.

I still consider the current uniform to be classy and the best of the major US airlines

First, I'm glad the "Safety's" are gone. I think they had the longest run of any of their humor videos and I was ready to blow the exit hatch if I had to listen to one more. I have to say, I think this new one is the most professional safety video I've ever seen. I don't find it in the least boring or bland and find it to be quite refreshing, actually.

Now, if anyone wants to talk about bad safety videos, let's start with VS'. I have no idea how that thing could pass as a safety video. But I'll leave that one for another thread.

Glad they got rid of the cheesy-comical safety demos; now if only UA can get rid of theirs. Part of me is kind of taken back to the old CO videos with Gordon Bethune where the FAs would speak and it would have their name and base listed next to them.

OMG that video was painfully bad. I love the funny ones. They were entertaining and usually kept people interested. This new video will put people to sleep and lose a majority of the passengers just seconds in. Time to put this one in the trash bin and try again.
