BA's 12th A380

Sun Jun 12, 2016 9:56 pm

With BA receiving its 12th A380 later this year, have there been any additional route announcements? Also, is YVR seasonal and what is happening at MIA?

Yes, the BA A380 LHR-YVR is seasonal. It reverts to 744 on October 1.

Would be interesting to see a complete list of BA A380 destinations and how they shift the aircraft depending on season. For instance LAX changes from 2x daily A380 during summer to 1x A380 and 1x 77W for winter.

Any more news on BA ( IAG) looking at used 380s?

Surely in my opinion it's just a matter of time before IAG add an additional 6-10 A388s to the fleet.

BA could probably use 6 straight away on high capacity routes which would in turn allow 744 retirement as well as 772 redeployment down to crawley international

BA's bean counters are no doubt tapping numbers into their calculators on MH's birds.

I wonder if BA might take some frames via DORIC/AMIDEO if they could get favourable terms
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

also have an option to take the "early birds" that SQ aren't renewing the leases of. If leasing something cheap is what they're after.

AFAIK BA already ruled out any non-RR powered A380

In time to resume services to MIA on 1st July as per Miami's earlier post.

On the subject of used A380's, WW's recent comments about EI look to me like a coded message to MH to make a better offer. I cannot see anybody else being interested in them and also I can't see why MH would need to hang on to all six until the A350's arrive. The SQ frames would seem to be less attractive given their age, especially if a significant refit is required. Although, at the right price, you never know. Across BA's network, CPT is an obvious A380 destination once it is able to handle them. It's hard to see BA not ending up with a few more.

It would be great if they ended up sending one to JFK but I bet that will never happen.

As BA have gotten more slots in LHR by purchasing BMI and EI, has that reduced their need for higher capacity frames in the near term?

Perceptive.

There's an A buyback lurking in there. I assume A would rather see five orphans off the market and parted, than depress the used market and/or decrease the possibility of new sales.

Now that ORD will be able to handle the A380 in a few months, I could see BA sending one there given the JV with AA - even if they can't go beyond 12 frames. But like most here, I see them picking up the MH birds cheap and refurbishing them to BA standards.

AA and BA want each other to thrive at ORD under the JV, especially since ORD-LHR is probably the most important oneworld hub-to-hub route involving the Americas. True, JFK-LHR has more frequency, but it's mostly O&D whereas ORD-LHR has many connections on both ends for AA and BA. UA only has connections on the ORD end, while VS is all O&D on both ends even with the DL JV (which, like the AA/BA/IB JV, is a boon to both sides) as DL is small at ORD.
