What Is This

Sat Dec 02, 2000 5:53 pm

I have seen something on 737s that I don't know what it is. If you look below the registration number back from the door, there is a "triangle" section missing from the body. What is this for? Thanks in advance

Hi again,
After looking to some photos I think it could be the APU intake.
Anybody knows it for sure?

Hi there!

That´s a NACA air inlet. This inlet is specially designd to take much air in with the least drag! Almost all airplanes have this in different sizes! Also gliders, just to get fresh air into the cabin.
In this case it´s used for the ECS packs. Enviromental Conditioning System - air for the airconditioning system!
Look at other airplane, for example at the Dornier 328, there you will see those NACA inlets below the wing!

Hope to help you!

Sincerly, Benjamin
