As you all know, apart from some third world countries, the B 707 is almost completely gone.
However do you guys think we still have a chance to fly the B 707 for some time?

Hey fookies.

Well, the DC-3 is still around, so there's hope for the 707 ... in one form or another ... for awhile anyway.

I flew on a 707 once in my whole life. That was back in 1985 when I flew from Rhodos (Greece) to Brussels with TEA, a Belgian charter airline now out of business. That's when Sabena retired its last 707.
When I was in Egypt a year ago, I was hoping to fly on a 707. Luxor Air still has them but I didn't have the chance to fly on one because my trip was booked on Egypt Air. I think that today (year 2001) you would have to go to Iran if you want to fly on a 707, Iran Air is one of the only international airlines that still fly 707's.
According to the Airliner World magazine published last month, the following carriers still have 707's today:
Air Afrique
Air Ghana
Air Memphis
Congo Airlines
Iran Air
Libyan Arab Airlines
Luxor Air
Royal Jordanian Airlines
Tarom
There are still a few 707's around in Africa or the Middle East but most of them are used for the military or VIP transport (I saw a few of them in Cairo). The 707 is almost a half century old !!!

I flew on a few, very few 707/720's on US carriers in the late 60's.
A few of celebrities own them so we will see them occaisonally. When I lived in California, I used to see south american ones all the time, som pax, some freight.
Alas, they soon may be just amemory...

I share your concern! Please read my "DC-8pax airline in 2001 update" in this forum.I fly pax DC-8s here in the U.S. and around the world. You can charter a combi DC-8-62, but it is big$$$$$

Well, if you managed to pull some strings in the USAF you might just be able to get a flight on a C-137..hehe yeah right.

They may continue to be around as freighters and very rarely as pax carriers but, sadly, the next stage of ICAO noise regulations would certainly see the end of their services except perhaps in remote areas. The DC-3 has not been subject to those regulations hence their survival.
I have flown on 707s several times, on BWIA and Pan Am. It has been 20 years since I last flew on one.

Unfortunately,the 707 will be history soon...If only Boeing made the landing gear taller,like the DC-8,It might be still be flying in the USA still.The 707 will have to be remembered in classic movies such as Airport.

I flew on AA & TWA 707's in the 70's. I sure do miss the whine of those Pratts! As others have mentioned, I think the days of the 707 are numbered except for remte Mid-east & africa, and maybe only a few more years there. I would think that the ones still in service are models delivered in the late 60's/early 70's. I think AA had taken delivery of some as late as 69/70. Retired in sept. of 81, so some may have only had 11-13 yrs on them when retired. Most AA went to USAF for parts and such tho.
It does appear that the DC-8 will live on longer,perhaps another 20 yrs for some units.

Having owned, operated and flown both types, I can state with certainty that thge 'Diesel 8' is a better built, stronger and more forgiving aircraft. The 707 will however occupy a very special place in my heart as it was the very first aircraft I ever flew - both as a pax and as a pilot.
Even within Africa, airlines are retiring them in favour of DC8s that are arriving here from the USA. My view is that as each aircraft is due for its D check, it will be retired from service and scrapped.

At the rate things are going, the only "707" type planes still flying around a few years from now will be the E-3 Sentry AWACS platforms.
I've heard there is serious talk of upgrading all E-3 Sentries sold to the USAF to the CFM56 engine in the next few years; it should be noted that the E-3 models sold to the British and French air forces all run the CFM56 engine.

It's a fact : Boeing Model 707 is an old jet. But, I love this jet ! I never flown it or on it but by my view of airplaine enthusiast, it's a great plane, if it's not in the greatest planes.
4-holers are beautiful and looks powerful, rather than so-common twinjet 767 and the ugly tri-jet Lada-like DC-10. I know that the 707 aren't very powerful, but...
And it looks better than DC-8 too
For 707 lovers like me, there is a company, Quiet Skies, that modify a 707-320B to meet Stage III regulations. This may be a chance to get theses babies in the sky again !

I guess we´ll have specially preserved oldtimer flights in 707s one day. Just like today in DC3s, DC4s or Ju52.
