I agree that oneworld would be the best. It would add a north Asian airline to oneworld, and JAL isn't too close to Cathy Pacific. I don't think that Star or Sky Team would be very good. They both already have airlines very close to JAL, ANA for Star and Korean Air for Sky Team. They could join Qualiflyer, but I think that Qualiflyer is just too small. oneworld is the best choice for them.

Oneworld they have the most connections with, and would be by far the best for them. But they have a very good relationship with Air France which is probably making them hold back.

They should join up NW, KLM, CO, and Alitalia (if they choose to enter with KLM). This would be a formidable alliance.

i agree that oneworld would be the best and most logical choice for JAL.
nonetheless it´s got good relations with both AF from skyteam and KL from wings.
don´t know if that´s what´s making them holding back, but these two alliances would mean greater influence for JAL because oneworld is already established and pretty much mapped out so JAL would have to follow suit.

Definitly Oneworld. I think SAirGroup (Swissair, Sabena, Crossair and probably LOT) soon will join Oneworld and JAL already has code-share flights with Swissair.

Oneworld is JAL's best fit, JAL and AA have gone very far with their long alliance together and they seem to be getting closer and closer together as far as codesharing. JAL also is partners with Swissair, and British Airways and Cathay Pacific. All three of those airlines are either in Oneworld, or very close to being in Oneworld. Also, SKYteam has Korean Air, Star has ANA. JAL is very close to Oneworld. Then they have "wings" but when one of your partners in an alliance, and then you have 3 of your partners(who are also your closest). That leaves Oneworld. Also, a lot of analysts are saying JAL will go Oneworld.

Even though it is a smaller alliance, I would not be suprised if there were some competition issues in Asia if JAL joined Skyteam because of the majority of traffic to and from Korean and Japan that they would control.

So Oneworld it is.
