Although I haven't flown JetBlue I hear those are some nice birds... I particulary like the fact that not only they have PTVs, but DirecTV. Where one could get his fix of NHL action...

I chose 5 airlines in my original post, but if I had to chose one it would be Aeroflot.

The only reason I say this is because they have a diverse fleet of Airbus, Boeing, Ilyushin, Tupolev, Antonov and Yak jets.

Required conditions:
1. Having most of Airbus.
2. No DC-10; Just my thought and DC-10 is lovely enough.
3. Diversity.
4. A symbol-like model.
5. Having orders of no-current-flying aircrafts like 380.

So I love AF's, all of requirements are done. Otherwise, SQ, CX and VS are also good.

Air France has also ordered the A 318. After delivery of the first A 380 they will have all existing types of Airbus fly-by-wire aircraft in their fleet - the A 318, 319, 320, 321, 330, 340 and 380.

I think, Air France has the best fleet:
-a mixture of Airbus (A310-200 & 300, A319-100, A320-100 & 200, A321-100 & 200, A340-300E) and of Boeing (B737-200 which will be out of service in a few of months, B737-300 & 500, B747-200 & 200F, B747-300 & 400, B767-300ER and B777-200ER).
-on order: A319-100 & A321-200, A330-200, Smile/happy/getting dizzyA380-800 Smile/happy/getting dizzy, B747-400 LR & B747-400 LRF (a few days ago), B777-200ER and B777-300 LR.

Hmm, don´t know whether such an airline exists, but it should have:

747-400

330/340 family (332, 333, 342, 343)

757/767 family (752, 753, 762, 763, 764)

320 family (319, 320, 321)

ARJ family (70, 85, 100)

DHC8 family (200, 300, 400)

And they should have 318, 345/6, 380 on order, of course  Big grin

SAS will have a great fleet when the Airbuses arrives.
The fleet will consist by many types; Fokker 50, Dash 8, DC9, MD80, 737-600/700/800, A321, B767-300, A330 and A340. Not bad! It's just a jumbo which will be missing. I don't think they will ever again have a 747, but I really hope for it or an A380 ; )

Virgin Atlantic is my first choice.
Nicely painted 747s and A340s, and in future some A380s and A340-600s added. Only big and beautiful 4-engined planes, no boring twins or small "flies".

For me it has to be a modern fleet, thus not containing any aircraft with three men cockpits. In addition to this at present the 747-400 and A 320 are a must.

Whereas the Air France fleet - along with many others - will match these criteria within a few years I can't think of any fleet that responds to these criteria at the moment.

I think TAP-Air Portugal has a nice fleet!!!

4 A340-300
5 A310
2 A321
7 A320-200
16 A319-100
1 B737-300

An Airbus Fleet...the last B737 is leaving in April...great!
Excuse me Boeing lovers!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The two ATAs(American Trans Air, and AirTran Airways)! They have all of my top 5 favorite aircraft:

727(Looks)
DC9(Looks; the brown trail of CO(I think) during takeoff)
717(Smart; unique from the other planes they are designing now.)
L1011(Need I say anything more)
757(Long; comfortable; fast)

I don't think that if you are looking at the fleet in total you can include any airline that has DC-9's and 727's. They are just too old and dumpy!

Now for a serious answer.

Undeniably, the best airline fleet in the world would have to be that which is operated by Volga-Dnepr Airlines, in particular the Antonov An-124-100.

I say this, because in the year 2000, Volga-Dnepr thru operating the An-124-100 was able to capture some 60% of the worldwide outsized cargo market.

NO other airline can come even close to claiming a monopoly like this on a worldwide basis in either passenger or cargo services.

And the best thing is, is that Volga-Dnepr wants even more An-124-100s and is even negotiating with Antonov Design Bureau to hopefully take an Antonov An-225 when one is available, which will only increase it's marketshare on a worldwide basis even more.

Continental - 2005
B737-300/500
B737-700/800/900
B757-200/300
B767-200/400
B777-200

American
B727, B737-800, B757, B767, B777.
They just need to get rid of all their Douglas jets (nothing against the DC10, but...)

I also like Virgin's B747s

Delta:

737NG and classics, 752, 762, 763, 764, 772, MD-88, MD-90, MD-11, L-1011

Comments: Except for the L-1011, their fleet is generally centered around Boeing and McD nicely.

Continental:

737NG and classics, 752, 762, 764, 772, MD-80, DC-10

Comments: Same as Delta except without the L-1011

Sabena

737 classics, A319, A320, A330, A340

Comments: The only operator of the complete line of Airbus FBW jets and soon the 737's will be out.

Swissair

MD-11, A319, A320, A321, A332

Comments: Nice simplified fleet of jets which will be even more so when the A346's come on line to replace the MD-11's.

Cathay Pacific

744, 777, A333, A343

Comments: A mixed-bag fleet of all Boeing and Airbus widebodies at least the size of the A333 allowing for great flexibility.

Dragonair

A320, A321, A333

Comments: Nice, simplified all-Airbus fleet.

Southwest

732, 733, 735, 73G

Comments: What else beats an all-737 fleet with different variants of various sizes and ages for great flexibility?

British Airways/United Airlines

A319, A320, 737 classics, 752, 767, 772, 744

Comments: Organized fleet of Airbus for short-medium haul and Boeing for medium-long haul and ultra-long haul. The 737's will not be in any future fleet plans.

I'd have to be a homer on this one and say definitely CO. With one of the youngest fleets in the industry and all those little RJ rocketships, COex and CO are among the best in the world.

Philip,

I beg to differ (and I certainly hate to do so, LH being my favourite airline):

a) they should have 757/767 instead of A300/310
b) they should REALLY phase out those rotten 747-200
c) 737 AND 320 series seems not very logical, so get rid of them 737
d) the CRJ is a crappy plane, uncomfortable and just a stretched Business jet, I way prefer DHC8 even if they´re a little slower but they´re spacious plus give more fleet flexibility with 36-50-70 seaters.

Just my 0.02 €

All-X Fleet

Thu Feb 08, 2001 7:42 pm

Though I love AF's fleet because it flies most of Airbuses, I don't think AF should go all-Airbus. (Well, a smaller venture like TAP would be fine, but AF is a worldwide giant airline.) If someone ask me what's my unfavoured fleet, I will say it's JAL, because it is all Boeing (and former MD). Sadly, currently I cannot see a major airline with all-Airbus. Then SR would be the first?  Smile

I really hate monopoly.

My Choice:

1. Southwest (WN) - one model economics. Even if they r 737's!

2. AF has quite an interesting mix. Why would an airline want BOTH 777's and A330/340s?

3. JetBlue.
