No, the latest thing that i've heard from Varig is that they're buing 777's to replace their leased MD-11.

Some months ago there was a rumour about VARIG being interested in the A330-200 for thinner routes. Maybe they're really interested in this bird.

Doesn't Varig operates an all Boeing fleet?

I believe Varig intends to order the 777 to replace some of their MS-11's.

If Varig gets the 777, then they would order the 764 over the A330 for their thinner routes for commonality reasons.

Appearently Varig is unhappy about the fact that they'll have to pay pretty high prices for their Boeing aircraft and lately they're talking about ordering Airbus too in order to get better offers from Boeing.

Fleetwise, I believe it would not make sense if they're ordering Airbus now.

I'm assuming that MD11s will be sold/traded in to Boeing as freighters for any number of cargo carriers that want 11s? How many do they have in their fleet anyways?

I read sometime, that their MD-11 will be bought by Boeing and then Varig will pay the diference of the 777, Boeing will convert the MD-11 to freighters.

Cba:

Having ordered the B777 does not mean Varig would order the B767 instead of the A330. EVA Air has ordered both the B777 and A332. Also, remember El Al almost ordered the A332 along with the B777?
