Airline Liveries

What is the best airline paint scheme in your opinion? This also includes dead airlines. And who needs a paint scheme change?

Well, BA has a stylish one. I kinnda like that...

Also, Canadian, with the duck-like bird on their tails is nice too!

Somebody on this forum recently said that Virgin was gonna have their planes repainted in silver and red - that would ROCK!!!

===

Iberia and most of Middle east carriers prolly need change... Also, there're too many of typical white fuselage paint schemes, which can be boring like AirFrance and Lufthansa (although I like these airlines..).

Four come to mind. Air Florida's bright blue and green, Northeastern's pink and blue cloud scheme, Capitol Air's SkySaver/Star Spangled scheme, and ValuJet. All were bright and cheerful.

By far TWA. Every plane TWA has looks perfect in their new paint scheme.

My name says it all.

Their old colours are the best - but the new ones not too bad either!

I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again...
I think that polished aluminum paint schemes are the best, because they are the only ones that allow the intricate beauty that is inherent in the aircraft to show through. I think that the airplane itself, not the paint that's poured onto it, is what is attractive. That said, my favorite is American's polished look with just enough color to add interest. USAir's colors were nice too, when they were largely polished. Just as an aside, too much polished aluminum does not look so good. I have seen 747's that are completely polished except for the words "Northwest Cargo" (I'm pretty sure it was Northwest). That was almost as bad as the planes that are plain white with the airline's name - there's just no interest in monotony.

RE: Airline Liveries/ Thai,...

Tue May 11, 1999 10:36 pm

I like classical airline liveries such as British Airways, Qantas, Air France and particulary Thai Airways.

The majestic Thai Airways livery was created over twenty years ago, under a brief that called for a reflection of Thai heritage in both colour and form. A huge Royal Orchid motif covers the tail fin, in shades of magenta, gold and purple. Thai's distinctive livery incorporates the colours associated with Thailand: the shining gold found in its temples, the magenta of its shimmering silks and the rich purples of its orchids.

I liked the billboard Pan Am livery designed by Airbus Industrie.

I remember seeing an A310 overflying Aberdeen, Scotland a few years ago and you could see the lettering without binoculars!!

I think that Saudi Arabian has the coolest looking livery, especially on their 747-400's!!! It looks so professional, and so neat...it's hard to describe. I think that SW and AA need a liver change (SW more than AA).

It's Aer Lingus, in my opinion. The two-tone green paint perfectly captures the beauty of Ireland. The shamrock tail is also unique.

Hello,

I like the Air France one.

Air France wanted to change its livrery in 1992, and made tests on its B747-400. But they did not change finaly.
You could see grey bottom, silver line or blu-white-red winglets.

See the photo ID number 32846 to have an exemple.

My favourite is definitely KLM. It just looks great, especially the 747s.

Lufthansa is my favourite airline, but their livery isn't great at all. The LH tail looks great, but the rest is too simple, just the word Lufthansa. I think their old livery was better...

It's hard to pick a clear winner... of all the recent livery changes, TWA has been one for the better, while British Airways, Canadian, Transbrasil, Air Pacific, Air New Zealand and Finnair have changed to worse liveries.

I liked the last AirCal colours, and the old and the new (not as much) of Horizon Air. Also, the previous liveries of Canadian, Air Canada, and British Airways, and Cathay Pacific's new colours!

RE: Airline Liveries Air NZ

Tue May 18, 1999 12:00 am

The best: Air New Zealand, Korean Air, Mandarin Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways.

Who needs paint jobs: Without a doubt Air Lanka, Tap Air Portugal, Air Mauritious sorry for spelling, the hideous Royal Air Maroc and please someone paint Air Malta.

Who dislikes any of the new designs. The only one I don't is the new Vietnam Airlines. The blue stripes looked elegent, this new green look is awful.

My two favorties for U.S. airlines are TWA and Continental.

Among foreign ones, my favorite is Varig. Royal Jordanian is also nice.

Off the top of my head:

I liked the official liveries of Tan and Sahsa, the two, now defunct, national airlines of Honduras, Central America. They also leased many planes, therefore having some mixed/different liveries that were quite interesting to see.

I do like the plain and simple colors (even though there aren't many) of Swissair. It accentuates the cross, symbol of Switzerland. Similarly, Air France's are nice. (Unforutunately, only big names come to mind. They're all that I am aware of for the most part.)

Re: US liveries: I like the new Delta and the (new) United. I am also a fan of Continental's again, plain and simple.

I keep trying to see if AA's could be modified or changed, but I dunno, the blue, white, red stripes are pretty classic. And the news 777's and 738's look really slick in them!

Southwest's could be changed, but then again, that's what makes them so unique. The SW planes really stand out at an airfield! Every now and then I try to imagine something new for them, but it's hard!

The best airline paint sheme would have to be United. It is truely beautiful and really has a "new" crisp look to it.

My favorites are United's because it looks professional and "business like" and Aloha's because it looks Hawaiian with the "Bird of Paradise" flower on the tail, and 'Aloha' in red Brush script. What Aloha needs to do, though, is replace their 737-200s with newer ones.

Nobody has mentioned one of the most unique liveries (I believe) on any airplanes in the world and that is the one from Royal Air Jordanian. Yes, the black color on aircraft might have its disadvantages, especially in the Middle East, but that is why these planes look so awesome.

Keep it going, B727

These are the ones I like:

1. Eastern (well, its gone but....)
2. American (these paint schemes are classics and could last 50 more years.
3. Delta (new) (old-yuck!)
4. British Airways (new) (shows clever thinking and uniquness of some American agency... and BA) (I didn't like their old)
5. Northwest (their airline isn't much to talk about but the paint scheme is one nice one)
6. KLM (almost identical to NWA's)
7. Air China (I love the swooping paint from the nose and the painted flower).
8. US Airways (new) (very hansome)
9. Continental

Though United Airlines livery looks quite nice but I guess, it was inspired by the majestic British airways colour sheme...

Anyway, The new United colour sheme looks much better than their old livery.

Blue And Red Liveries Are Too Common

Mon May 24, 1999 12:20 am

Be honest with me for a minute. Every major airline has a shade of red or blue in their liveres. Quite frankly it gets boring! But when Midway #2 came out with their yellow livery, I was surprised! Kind of reminded me of the days of Northeast and their yellow birds...
