I want to know which carrier was the firsst one to introduce nonstop flights from USA to Hong Kong and with what equipment.
I think Cathay was the first one to introduce LAX-HKG nonstop with 744.
Did Panam fly SFO-HKG nonstop with 747SP ?
As for ORD and NYC.
UA was the first from ORD
CO the first from EWR

Yes Pan Am was the first with nonstop B747SP flights from SFO to HKG. CX. first USA route was in the mid 80's and operated with a B747-200's on a HKG-YVR-SFO routing CX dropped SFO and added LAX in the early 90's.

DL did the first LAX-HKG nonstop with M11.
The route started with L15 via ANC.
UA did the first SEA-HKG with DC-10-30ER.
NW did the first MSP-HKG with 744.
These are all discontinued now.

Actually Pan Am operated the first LAX-HKG nonstop - they operated PA005/006 alternately between SFO-HKG and LAX-HKG using 747SP. I know because my first 747SP flight in 1978 was SIN-HKG-LAX.

Pan Am did 747SP from JFK to NRT not to Hong Kong. After United bought out routes/equipment from Pan Am UA started nonstops SFO-Hong Kong with former Pan Am 747SP.

Pan Am started SFO-HKG soon after they took delivery of their 747SP's. UA simply took over when they purchase PA's Pacific routes.
Before they took over the routes, UA only had one flight to HKG out of SEA, using DC10-30ER's leased from Canadian. They ditched the route shortly after taking over PA's rights. NW re-started the HKG-SEA route a few years later using 747-200's but eventually dropped it too.

And as for Newark, United had a NRT nonstop out of there before CO. Part of the time it was a 747SP, so it had to be a few years ago.
