757-300

I have heard a rumour from a source at British Airways that they are currently evaluating the 757-300. Given that they are selling most of the 757-200 fleet to DHL for cargo conversion, and have the A320 family, it would be an unusual move. Has anyone heard this as well? I suppose Boeing would give them a good deal to get the production line moving again!

What surprise? All airlines evaluate all options. Will BA order it? I doubt it myself. But I have been known to be wrong before.

most airlines evaluate most planes...
Swissair evaluated the 737NG's, 757, 767, 777 and recently the A380 (no its not going to happen)

this could be true
apparently the a319/320 is too small for some of their european routes and there is a long waiting list for the a321, as they are still a big operator of the b757 they could start up the 757-300 almost immediatly its available

Antonovman,

If BA wants the A321, wouldn't they just keep the 757-200s flying? Would not make sense to order 757-300 if they want the A321, as the 757-200 is bigger then the A321, and the -300 is bigger then the -200.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Of course airlines evaluate other aircraft types, but I gather that for BA it may have gone beyond this into negotiation! You heard it hear first!!!

BA has already received some new A321s for GB Airways recently.

The GB Airways A321s are interesting given BA's interest in the 757-300. I wonder why BA mainline are not interested in the A321s (I am sure they don't have any on order or option, though I bet they could swap their huge airbus order around). The 757-300s are larger than the A321s, but it would be interesting to see what happens if they do go with 757-300s!

B757/300 is larger than A321 and can be a good replacement for both BA B757/200 and B767/200 on Europen routes.

BA doesnt fly the 762 anywhere, it doesnt have it in its' fleet, however, BA does fly the 763 on its' EU routes.

I though BA was keeping a few of their 757s, as I think they sold 44 to DHL but they have a total of 53, leaving BA with 9 757s. Also, they are keeping a few 757s on many routes (LHR-ZRH, etc.) that would be too small for the A320/734.
