What Do You Think About The 757-200?

Sat Jul 21, 2001 10:37 am

I think the 752 is a very good airplane. I fly with the 752 a couple of times and the following Routes:

DUS-ZTH (Zakynthos/Greece) LT ( D Charter Airline)
ZTH-DUS LT
DUS-ZTH LT
ZTH-DUS LT
ATL-SFO DL
ALC(Alicante/Spain)-DUS LT
LAX-LAS N7
LAS-LAX N7

I just did UA to Orange County and back to SFO. A 752 out and a 320 back with just 2 1/2 hours in between. I made extra sure this time to compare a few things. As always, I know very well that interior configurations are up to the airline.

1. Zero difference in seat width, so must've been some extra in the aisle.

2. Brutal seat pitch in the 320 in "regular" coach vs. the 757. Tray table is in your nose.

3. UA's economy plus is quite possibly the dumbest idea since New Coke. AA just puts them to shame with "More Room".

4. Incredible T/Os in both. The 757 out was about 1/3 full. The 320 back was about 3/4s full and they just maxed out on power with full brakes until the whole plane was rocking, then let go and exploded down the runway for that famous Orange County take-off. A beautiful experience every time.

The 752 is great, such a niche plane with a special mission. Incredible safety record, dispatch record, reliability etc. Anyone that wants to bitch about that extra Airbus inch for their fat ass should go to the gym instead. And don't fly UA, because there ain't no extra inch for that fat ass.

Fantastic plane, with very low costs per seat, very economic.
The best plane for flights up to 5 hours  Big thumbs up
But not as great as the 757-300 actual the most elegant plane in the air.

the 757-300 is way too long. The 757-200 is pretty good but that nose is ugly as hell. It's like Boeing took a nose cone of a 747 and filed it down so that it could fit. I guess a disgruntled 757 design team member hated his/her job.  Wink/being sarcastic

Personally I think in 70 or 80 years they're gonna look at the 757 the way we look at the DC-3....they'll say "Yup! They knew what they were doing with that one.."

Looks a bit under-fed. Like the design team took a 767 (nice and chunky) and stopped feeding it. As for the nose, it's a bit like a Concorde-styled droop down half job. A very flexible, economical aircraft in an ugly duckling situation.

I agree about Economy plus. That is ridiculous.

I can get extra legroom on American for F R E E.

I have to pay FULL COACH FARE- WALK UP- AND GRAB THE VASELINE price to get Econ+

That's pure, unadulterated bullcrap with a CAPITAL B.

Especially when you realize that you are getting NOTHING but legroom.

For example:

My last flight on United was DFW-IAD.

I paid $199 for coach. Great deal, no complaints.
To get Economy Plus (which I did check) the fare was over $600.

Why would I? It's a few inches. The food is not better. The seats are no different. There's no more luggage room. IT's just plain stupid.

But, back to the subject, the 757 is okay. I haven't flown one recently, but as I remember is was a nice aircraft to fly in.

It is one my favourite planes. I travelled a lot between Lisbon and London with BA. I really like to see her taxiing, it looks very elegant, a narrow body with high shoes.

The B 757 is good for short to medium haul flights.

What's interesting is that the 757 was designed originally to replace the 727-200. However, because the 757-200 ended up being somewhat larger than the 727-200, the 752 ended up replacing 707's and DC-8's on many routes.

I do know that many USA transcon flights that used to be flown by 707's and DC-8's were replaced by 752's, with the busier routes switching to 767-200's.

The 757 is the best looking aircraft around (in my opinion) but I think Boeing are wrecking its image by making the 300! it looks too long and skinny!

Nice aircraft. I've only flown it in FI config., which is known for minimal pitch, but it didn't bother me at all.

One of my absolutely favourite a/c, and it's really good looking.

Well for one thing, you cannot compare the 757 and A320 on seat width/ pitch (Wingman) because this wholly depends on the airline and the service which they provide.

The 757-200 is noisier and bumpy/shakier than the A320, but the 752 does have more WCs, and more cabin crew. Of course the 752 carries more pax and some of the WCs on the 752 are optional.

I really think it depends on the airline, but the 752 is one of a few versatile planes in the air.

There is actually a reason why the front section of the 757 looks the way it does. It is for better forward visibility for the flightcrew when doing a low visibility landing.

Wrong dear Wingman. I don't have the problem myself, but quite often I am seated next to a stranger (or squeezed between two strangers) who could need a gym.

Those 7 inches do make a difference even if it is only 1 1/6 inch per seat. When you are rubbing shoulders at one inch distance, then 2 1/6 inch instead makes a pleasant difference.

Six abreast in the 320 is just bearable. Six abreast on 707, 727, 737 and 757 is cramped.

Otherwise the 757 is a great plane in every respect.

Tommyboy; The long walk and wait to the bathroom is bad. On a TWA 757-200 picture I saw here on airliners.net thre was a caption reading "Management and pilots love it but PAX and FA's hate it." This is true on CO, DL and AA's 757

Someone said it look like they stopped feeding it. an ugly duckling.

Hell no!! If any airplane deserved to be called "sexy" this would be it. It's like a Tall slender (the taller landing gear, long fuselage, tall tail) but yet muscular (large wings, powerful large engines) woman.

One of the best looking a/c. Better than "Fat Albert" or "tinkerbell"!!!!

Great airplane, I definitely hope to fly more on it. I flew it from Denver to Boston, and loved every minute of it.

This past May I flew on a Delta 757-200 painted in Deltaflot colors from MCO to CVG powered by P&W 2000 series engines. The takeoff was fast and we quickly climbed to our cruising altitude. The seating in economy was cramped with very little legroom for someone over 6ft tall.
