Delta's 777

Sat Jul 21, 2001 10:42 am

How is Delta's 777 in coach class? Comfortable? Are they loud during take off (can you really hear those engines roar?) So, taking aircraft into consideration on the Delta itenerary, which one do you think is better?

1)ROC-ATL - Delta 727
ATL-MCO - Delta 777
RSW-CVG - Delta MD80
CVG-ROC - Comair CRJ

2)ROC-JFK - Jetblue A320
JFK-MCO - Jetblue A320
RSW-JFK - Jetblue A320
JFK-ROC - Jetblue A320

I flew the DL 777 CDG JFK and was comfortable even in the middle section. Coach even has the PTVs, but probably not much to see on that short of a flight. Hopefully they moved the ptv controls because the flight attendant call button on them was right where a passenger's elbow falls, resulting in hectic f/as. Actually rather amusing on an 8 hour flight. I found the noise comprable to any other airliner. I have no info on jetblue, but DL is nice for me. It's quicker than walking.

The comfort level really depends on when you will be traveling. Now, in coach at least, DL 777s aren't exactly the most comfortable coach class equiped aircraft in the skies today. The pitch stinks, and the layout of the PTV system is less then efficient. Although the BizElite seats are nice up front, the BAe designed seats are always having problems.

Come November, the 777s are to be refit with overhead crew rest facilities and modified coach seats in a 3-3-3 layout. No idea what is going to come of the BizElite seats.

Fly jetBlue. PTVs on all flights. The A320 is an awesome plane and my personal favorite narrowbody. Support this awesome new airline!

Having spent a lot of time on both airlines lately...I'd...go with Delta...777 is a 777...like no other!
jetBlue is awesome...but the 320 is no 777  Laugh out loud

Wow, that depends.

If you are going for aircraft type- as I frequently do- go with Delta. Dont' get me wrong, I LOVE the A320. But, I would jump at a chance to fly a 727 any day (not many of those days left, you know) and the MD-80 is a rocket. And then, who wouldn't go for the 777? The CRJs are supposedly something special in their category too. So, that is what I would do.

I think any way you go you'll have a great flight! Both options have good aircraft and fairly good service.

If I had to choose, however, I would go Jet Blue because I've heard great things about them. I like to support the little guys plus they have PTVs and great service.

Wouldn't you get bored with four A320 flights? On your Delta itinerary, you have four different aircraft. The variety is what I'd choose.

Delta's BusinessElite seats are not going away. B/E Aerospace made the BizElite seat as an upscale version of there Millennium Model product line. The reliability of the video and power actuation systems has been extremely poor. A reliability improvement modification of the seat is well underway with roughly 45% of the 763ER's accomplished (or about 35% of DL's international fleet). The EC seats on the 777 will incorporate the EC Enhancement program similar to the 764's when the aircraft go in for the 3x3x3 conversion.
