Sport hawk is the airline Toronto Blue Jays use, and the Montreal Expos use them quite often as well. The Atlanta Braves like Delta, however they sometimes use a Pace Airlines B737 as well. St-Louis tend to come into Montreal on TWA. In fact, for many North American teams, it depends on the city. Lots of airlines flying to Montreal from St-Louis use TWA. when teams fly to Montreal St-Hubert from New York, they often use Delta Shuttle (B727's originally, but now B737-800's). The Pheonix baseball team uses SportJet (B737-400 and B757). Montreal St-Hubert has become the airport of choice for sport teams and we see a lot of veriaty.

In Dallas, the Cowboys usually charter AA. I don't know about the Sidekicks,Burn(pro soccer teams) or the Stars, but Marc Cuban bought the Mavericks their own private DC-9. From what I seen in player interviews about it, I think I would like to take a trip in it  Smile.

The Washington Wizards and Capitals have there own 737 it was parked at BWI last time i was there. Last year the Oakland Raiders were using Hawain airlines, they can keep them i did one flight for them and they were HORRIBLE. Colorado Rockies use a charter company ( not sure which one ) the plane broke down once so they had to fly on Frontier

I know that Liverpool Football Club flies with Easyjet.
Ajax Amsterdam flies with Martinair Holland.
The Dutch soccerteam flies with Transavia (Europe) and KLM (Intercontinental)

Arrows Formula 1 racing flies with European Aviation.

The Dutch Olympic Equipe flies also with KLM.

All right, we can cut out the dislike of Bayern München as a bit off-topic.  Smile

Here in the USA, pro sports teams usually flies special charter flights on AA, CO, DL and UA. I do know that the Portland Trailblazers often have access to Paul Allen's private 757-200, and NBA teams often use specially-configured NW 727-200's (soon to be A320's).

Continental is the Official airline of the NY Yankees and have an ad in the outfield, plus their commercials air during Yankees games on Fox and MSG. Im not sure what kind of aircraft they usually fly on but they fly DC-10s during the World Series.

The NY Football Giants fly United 757s except when they play Philadelphia or Washington, when they play these two teams they take special Amtrak charter trains.

Polar air cargo used to transport CART cars and equipment to races in South America, Australia ( Surfers Paradise), and Asia, but I think Fed Ex is now the main sponsor of CART and they fly them around on MD-11s.

Anyone know who transports Formula 1 to races in South America, Asia and now the USA.

Wrong, Blink182!

Mon Jul 23, 2001 3:01 am

Mark Cuban did NOT buy the Dallas Mavericks a DC-9. That is what they had before. Mark has purchased a Boeing 757 for the team and it is undergoing refurbishment right now. From what I heard, don't know how true it is or not, he wanted to buy the team a Boeing 777 and base it out of Love Field. The City of Dallas told him, no way.......at least that is what I heard.

Mark Cuban was the former owner of Broadcast.com and was bought out buy Yahoo.com He purchased a Gulfstream V over the Internet !! Can't wait to get photos of his 757 that he bought for the Mavericks. Last year both the Mavericks and Stars flew aboard specially modified 727-200 series that Northwest Airlines uses for sports charters. Most of them have tail numbers ending in EA, which leads me to believe they were all former Eastern 727's. The Los Angeles Lakers also used NW because I saw them board a flight at the Imperial Terminal at LAX in March of this year.

The former Mavericks owner, Donald Carter, bought the DC-9. During the drought decade of the '90's, when the Mavericks were the one of the consistently worst teams in basketball, other teams borrowed the plane during the playoffs, including the Chicago Bulls in one of their championship years.

My team,London Broncos Rugby League Club are owned by the Virgin group so I guess that makes them our carrier ,but as they do not fly to Wigan ,Castleford or Warrington the team alwats travel by bus.
The England football team usually use Monarch or BA
I think F1 cars are transported by ad hoc charter although the F1 admin do have an RJ85 that they use for key personnel

Legend Airlines

Mon Jul 23, 2001 6:49 am

Legend was "thinking" about buying the DC-9 that the Dallas Mavericks used to use for their flights, but it had way too much time on the engines and frames. It would have needed a major overhaul before putting back into passenger service. The last time I saw that DC-9, it was pulled up to the Legend Terminal after Legend went bankrupt. I still see it is For Sale in numerous Jet Aircraft Classified Ad Magazines.

The Orlando Magic of the NBA fly a Boeing 737 owned by Rich Devos, Billionaire owner of the team. He made his fortune by founding Amway. There was an article in the local paper a few months back detailing the aircraft. Pretty nice, I must admit!

Delta is the official airline of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, and the New York Mets. These teams use Delta for all team flights. The Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Thrashers both share a 737-200 operated by PACE Aviation (who also handles the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards) The Florida Marlins use an Miami Air 727 (soon to be replaced with a 737NG). The Miami Dolphins have access to a BBJ owned buy the team's owner. Sporthawk does quite a few sports team charters, as does Transmeridian. I've seen quite a few sports charters come in on aircraft with no titles whatsoever. All of the major airlines in the U.S. handle sports teams, and Southwest is the official airline of the NFL.

I know the Houston Rockets use the NWA 727-200 Charters.

The Houston Astros "borrow" 737's from Continental

The Houston Aeros usually fly comercially on Continental, but use United when they fly to and from Chicago.

It's funny to see that our minor league hockey team sponsored by United in Houston.

United, in case you are wondering, is the offiicial airline of the Houston Aeros.

Most pro sports teams in the states, especially in the larger markets, go with whoever has a hub in their city-usually it's a straight up, bartered marketing deal. CO has the Yankees in New York, the Indians and the Browns in CLE, and the Astro's in IAH. I'm sure most of the Chicago teams have either AA or UA as their "Official Airline", and the like.

Many teams nowadays-especially in basketball, seem tho have their own aircraft for some of their flights. Even the lowly, boring Cavaliers here in CLE have their own plane they use from time to time!  Smile Hope the damned thing operates better than they do.  Sad

The coolest charters I saw were when Da Bulls, during Jordan's heyday, and the Boston Red Sox, used to charter an MGM Grand DC-8, laid out with these huge First Class-type seats, with fruit bars, and a buffet on board, with TV's at each seat and all over the aircraft. It was pretty cool.

And Favre, a special 56-seat aircraft isn't big enough to fly an NFL team. You'd have to leave some of the coaches, the trainers, the equipment guys, and the front office people behind.

Even when a team has an "official" airline, it doesn't mean they don't fly anyone else. Back in 88, the Old Browns were flying to London for the annual pre-season game there. Even though CO was their official carrier at the time, they chartered a TW 747 to take them from CLE to LHR.

Does the 737-NG owned by Wayne Huzengia, the Dolphins owner have a "regular" layout? I can't imagine that he would own a 737-NG for his own use, yet it is done up in an airline layout.........are you sure the Dolphins actually have access to the plane? I just can't see loading up a football team on his personal aircraft. Now I can see a baseball, hockey or basketball team, but not a football team. Just curious if you know the actual answer. I saw this plane once at Dallas Love Field. It is very nice looking on the outside.
