Without hesitation - the Queen of the skies, the legend - the 747.

The Boeing 747, particularly the short upper deck 747 (-100, -200, -400F & -8F) is my favourite Jumbo Jet. Seeing one either at take off or landing, especially if it flies into the sun at sunrise/sunset is simply breathtaking.

Been watching the EK A380's land at LGW.

It is amazing to see this huge plane appear.

Only problem it is so quiet.

By the time you hear it coming it is overhead.

It actually seems quieter than the A320 and B737NG.

Without doubt the 747 as it pushed the boundaries like never before and changed the world like nothing since. Both technically (for its time) and aesthetically today still looks great

Although the A380 is very comfortable and quiet to fly in, the 747 has something very special about it. So my vote is the 747.

I have flown in both the 747 and a380. Many things have taken place over the last 15-20 years that have really taken the fun out of flying for me. For this reason, I vote the 747. Not only is it sleek, beautiful and graceful, this bird also helped to revolutionize the entire concept of air travel. It created a sense of wonder and possibilities like no other.

747-400.

I like the A380, but not the same way as the 747.

It probably is, but it isn't hard to be quieter than the 737NG.

747 was, is and always will be The Queen.
The A380 is a big impressive, awesome beast and it's a wonder to see it in the air but it's ugly as sin.
I'm old enough to remember when the 747 first entered service. There was nothing else even close to her size so the wow factor when it flew over was off the charts.

Favourite Jumbos?
N729PA, VH-OJA, EP-IAA, G-AWNH, VH-EBT, N747PA....

Sorry wrong answer...there can only be one Jumbo, the 747. I miss all the 747 operators we used to have and see, but time moves on.

I love the A380 too.

I often wonder what our grandparents would have thought of these big beasts flying around, when they might have seen a DC3 or something.

As a passenger A380. Airline and seat matter of course.
As an enthusiast I like the 747 just as much.
Both are marvelous machines.
Greetings, Nils

I clicked on the thread thinking that the OP was going to ask about a specific 747, so I am going to go with that, for me it is G-VHOT Tubular Belle. For some reason I kept getting that aircraft on my various VS flights.

In my real world, its the 747 hands down, feet up, head turned and heart palpitated, the relatively narrower seats notwithstanding. Been seated in the front cabin only once but it's another world!
In my dreamworld? The literally one and only Mriya, with its six howlers and more than enough space for four bowling alley lanes!

747-200 is my first choice, both for travelling and for spotting. Particularly with the Pratt engines. The noise those made on take-off and when in thrust reverser mode is music.

747-SP Sprightly, little jumbo. Felt like travelling inside a rocket

I'm biased because it's the only one of the list I've had the chance to fly on - the Boeing 747, hands down.

The 747. I was lucky enough that BA was still running BOM-LHR on a 747 in 2000 with the upper deck in Y config. Since there are no OH bins and I was on bulkhead seats, it was a fantastic legspace experience.

To top it all, the attending FA pretty much set the cart in the galley and went down to join his comrades. It was a self-service bar from that point on. I don't remember spending a lot of time in my seat!!!!

I cannot disagree. The 747 - I am particularly fond of the -400 series - set a standard for air travel that will probably never be surpassed (forgetting the Concorde, of course, but that is another topic).

The 380 is a great engineering feat, but it is, to me, like flying in a barn. And the nose is - I cat think of any other way to say it - is so painfully ugly I am afraid it will scare all the birds out of the air. My worst aviation nightmare would be seeing a 380 in AA's garish, in-your-face livery...
